just curious
How did you come across my father's gravestone? Did you know him.personally or were you just taking pictures? I appreciate you posting the pictures and info.

Henry Whicker
Yes they are the same person. And thank-you for drawing my attention to it because I had made a mistake on his date of death. I don't remember where I got my information but when I looked on the Cemetery Census for Forsyth County it listed only the Loves Methodist Church Cemetery for the location of his grave. Obviously something was planned at Gardens of Memory Cemetery because Henry's plaque was already there and there was a space for his wife. But I don't know what happened to have them buried at Loves. Yes Henry was married to Bernice Hastings. I didn't know them. Henry's mother Alice Arrita Mecum was the daughter of John Henry Mecum. His brother Archibald Mansfield Mecum is my GreatGrandfather.

RE: Alva????
I know what you mean...typically when someone makes complete memorials like you do, one like Alva's is an accidental submission and going through that person's memorials turns up a complete one to match. But I went through your Alva listings, and there wasn't one. Good luck finding the rest of the info!

RE: Gray Templeton
Sorry, I don't live near there. That photo was taken by one of our "Seawolves" who attended the ceremony. Will need to do a photo request after the cemetery has had time to install the permanent one.

The index published by the Register of Deeds is in error and shows this:

DOD 1926-04-09
Roll 0012 Number 0897
Sex F
Race W

Would not be the first time official records have had errors in recording. I'll let them know next time I'm over there so they can correct it.

Barbara Reid Ruiz
Clingman Cemetery
The 1939 Survey of Forsyth County Cemeteries listed this cemetery as:
Poindexter Graveyard, on county road from
Louisville, Forsyth County, N.C. to
Huntsville, on north side of road, about
one-half mile east of the Yadkin River bridge.

[Please add this to the description of the cemetery as it has apparently changed names and perhaps county since that publication]

William Mowbray
Memorial# 125575356

FYI, Thelma's middle initial is R vs P.

Her maiden name is Thelma R Russell. So the R could stand for her maiden middle initial or for her surname of Russell.

If you look real close, it is an R on the gravestone.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Warmest regards,

RE: Temperance Hutchans Mikles
Yes, the spelling of that name is often mispronounced and mispelled, but in those days they wrote it as they heard it. :-) I've seen it as Hutchens, Hutchins, or Houchens, etc. Most of the names now in Yadkin and Surry are Hutchens and to a lesser extent Hutchins. One of my ancestors in Bryan County, GA shows as "Cardor", and not Carter, and it took me forever to find him on the census.

Kenneth Loyd Mackie
Kenneth Loyd Mackie - Grave Memorial #108892542

I have been researching my Pollard family for over 25 years. I descend from Nancy Pollard and her son, Etheldred Pollard.

Kenneth Loyd Mackie married in to my Pollard family - he married Mildred Maultsby Pollard (her 2nd marriage).

Is Kenneth Loyd Mackie a part of your family? If so, how are you related?

If Kenneth isn't a part of your family, would you mind if I took over your memorial for Kenneth?

Thank You,
Diane Pollard Keiser

Edgbert Paul Hamby (#133493551)
Good evening DebbieLee (Graveyard Granny). I wanted to thank you so much for the gravemarker photo you added to Mr. Hamby's memorial today. My gosh, that was fast ... I just added his memorial yesterday. You were really on top of things, and I greatly appreciate it!

He served in the same World War II combat outfit as did my beloved late father (the 325th GIR). I am doing all I can to find, honor, and/or memorialize as many of these brave soldiers as I can locate, whether or not they paid the Ultimate Sacrifice, came home and lived to a ripe old age (like my Daddy), or anything in between.

Thank you again, and I am truly grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Take care!
