My love of cemeteries began when I was a young girl and my great-grandmother took me up on the hill to the cemetery. She called it the "family cemetery", and I have called it that ever since. I believe we can honor our loved ones even after they are gone from us.
"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26
Tell me if this rings a bell. Rt. 27 is Heizer Creek Rd. A few miles out you cross Pocatalico River. Just past the bridge there is a small road that leads to some houses now. Looks like if you follow a dirt rd. up the hill, there is a barn. There looks like there is a cemetery to the right of the barn.
Nancy Flinn Miller / Elizabeth Miller Jarrell Hello, No i have no proof only what i could dig up via Google searches & ect...I did pay so i could look through Census records & Family Search is free & a great help. Lyman C. Draper wrote Manuscripts on the Flinn or Flynn family. The other thing i am considering to buy from the Boone Co. W.V. Genealogy Society is their book on the West Fork Millers. My G.G.Grandpa was the son of Nancy Flinn. John B. Miller.I need to read or buy a book of the original Draper manuscripts which are supposedly direct letters from him to John B. Miller & his son Anderson T. Miller.Any information you can find or hear about would be greatly appreciated. It gets a little costly,my Newspaper & Census cost are over the $100.00 mark. I hope to be able to afford one of the Books soon.
RE: Hello Pam Ong that is amazing yes i would love to share info. Yes i have a half sister named Regina amd have been looking for them. My father passed away in 2007 and am looking for information on him as well. Im very happy to meet you ☺️
Hello Pam I have started my quest of my geneology and realized Ruby White and Dallas Carpenter are my paternal grandparents. I would like to talk with you and hope to gain some knowledge in what you may know. Thanks.
RE: Samuel Marks Thanks, Pam!! I'm trying to put together what I've found so far. As I said, I've just started with Dain's family so I know I've only cracked the surface. I have found a marriage record for a Hepsie E Jones (nee Marks) marrying a William Cooper in July 1888. I believe this Hepsie is also the Hepizah listed on findagrave and the Ellen H listed on the 1900 and 1910 census.
From the marriage record, it appears that Ellen/Hepsie was married prior to marrying W.Cooper to someone with the last names Jones. I have not yet found any record of her married to someone with the last name Derear as you mentioned.
Whenever you get a chance to talk to your mother-in-law, that would be great. No rush. I'm not at a dead end.
You have a note (memorial? sorry, I don't know all the terminology on findagrave) on Samuel Marks' page that he is your great-great grandfather. I am doing some genealogy research for my boyfriend, Dain. I believe Samuel is Dain's 3x great grandfather through Samuel's daughter Ellen Marks. The findagrave page has her name as Hepizah Ellen Marks. I have only seen her name as Ellen H Marks however, I have only just started and have just researched the Census reports over the years.
Are you able to verify that this Hepizah Ellen Marks married a William Cooper and had a daughter named Edna Ellen Cooper?
I'd love any other info you have on the family but it's probably a lot.
