To: Jim Tipton , Russ Dodge , A.J. Marik, Mark and also those that own Find-a-Grave,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to a great, informational site that this is. I am member of the site and have used it to find family members when I was doing family genealogy on my Father’s side of the family.
I am also appalled that some of your current membership are nothing but ‘obituary readers’ that feel the need to put every death that they read on Find-a-Grave.
Case in point; My Cousin Kristin Carole Leary, Find A Grave Memorial # 151610473, passed away August 31, 2015. Kristin had been ill for many months, but her death has broken her family’s hearts. They are still in the process of grieving and have not even buried her yet. To find her on Find-a-grave before she has been buried, breaks my heart. The person who put this on is Iriss Hill (#46617720). Kristin family, including My Uncle & Aunt, her father & mother and siblings are still in deep shock from her tragic loss. It is in my honest opinion; it is hugely disrespectful to put the death of someone who has Not even been buried yet on Find-a-Grave, just because you have read it in the newspaper or online. All families need time to grieve their loss, to get past the shock of a death within the family, to properly mourn their departed loved ones. To find their loved one already on Find-a-Grave before the person as been laid to rest, is just atrocious, ghastly & ghoulish in nature. In my honest opinion; this needs to stop, please. There should be a waiting period that is put as rule, before posting a recent death, whether the person is young or old. This is just common courteous to the family whom is already suffering their loss.
To those that are ‘Obituary Readers’ , please before you place someone who has just passed away on Find-a-Grave web site, think of their family that is grieving, and living with their sorrow, and still is heartbroken.
Are you making their loss much tougher, because you are trying to boost your own Find-a-Grave numbers?
Are you adding more heart break to their family, just so you can impress others, by your great quantity of memorials on your page?
Are adding more burden to some family’s bereavement, just so you can be first?
Would you want some other Find-a-Grave member to do this to your family, in your time of sorrow, heartbreak, loss & grief?
Please think about the family and let them have their final time, their memories, their peace in the death of their loved one. Do not add to their already deep suffering and burden, Please.
I have request that my cousin Kristin Carole Leary memorial page be transfer to my care from Iriss Hill. Iriss Hill is not any member of my family, on either side of my family or a friend of the family, to my knowledge. I do realize that the rules say siblings, parents, grand parents and great grand parents.
Second, Transfer requests will be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
You may reach me at my own find-a-grave page, janey (#47766164) or the email address this come from. Please also pass this on to Jim Tipton, as I feel this needs to be seen by the owner. Thank you for your time and creating such great helpful site.
