I've been interested in genealogy for many years. After I retired in 1985, my husband and I made many trips to Virginia and Pennsylvania searching for information on our families. Now I can sit at my computer and find most of the same information; although walking through cemeteries where ancestors are buried and going through old courthouse records was worth the trips. Now that I'm 84 and can't walk as well as I used to, I'm grateful for the computer.|
My husband died in 2008 and is buried in Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV. I have been looking up obituaries on those buried in Sunset and adding their names, if they are not already listed. If I have listed anyone you are related to or want to manage, just let me know and I'll transfer the names. Just click on the Edit button.
If you see any errors I've made (fact or typos), please let me know, I will appreciate it.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

His parents are Lorenzo Dow Starkey (1858-1931)
and Louise Hoff (1860-1942). She is buried in Elkview Masonic Cemetery, Clarksburg, Harrison County, WV. Would you please place a link to her? Thank you. I am amazed at the amount of volunteer work you and many other people have done.

In Ref to Pvt William Cochenour/ Civil War Vet.
I see that you have him listed as a civil war vet serving with Co H 15th Cav Regt. He is listed in Bates as being with that unit.
But there is also a Pvt William Cochenour serving with Company E, 105th Penn Vol Inf.
Recruited from the West Newton / Westmoreland county area.
That Pvt Cochenour served from Sept 4, 1861 to April 4, 1862 and was discharged on Surgeon's certificate.
The dates match that he could have reentered the service after he was discharged. Do you have any records showing this is the same person?
I am trying to find the burial locations of as many of Company E 105th PVI members that I can.
I belived this is the same person.
Any info/ help would be appreciated.

Hi Dolores! Thanks for transferring Sarah's memorial to me. Totally unnecessary, but I appreciate it just the same. I'll take good care of it!
