I am the grand-daughter of William "Jack" Fike and Madeline "Madge" Jacobs Fike. The information contained is not correct and I will be able to add correct data and photos of my grandparents and my mom Jacqueline "Jackie" Fike Haines. Would be interested in knowing who descendents are and how.
I will never forget being a child, growing up in their home since 1969.

Thank you for putting on the little photo of a church, just as I was adding my Gt Gt Grfather to this website! Alexander Rentoul died here in tragic circumstances, despised by the locals and abandoned by his son. He never saw his grandchildren, he went broke, he turned to drink...it was mostly the tragic circumstances beyond his control that did this and after a lot of searching I've finally unraveled a lot of his story. He was put into his 2nd wife's family grave with just his name - spelt wrongly - tacked onto the very bottom of the stone in metal letters. His wife who died later, was buried under her first husband's name. It's a really sad story and typical of many who came here during the gold rushes. A slump followed and men out of work became so desperate they killed themselves, as there was no way out or back home. He did find another job and was supporting his second family, as far as I can see, and his death was an accident just when he was starting to get a grip on things again. Such is life! So seeing a little church spring up out of nowhere was like a divine sign - yes, God has seen and still loves his soul! Thank you so much. God used you to touch me. Blessings to you forever!!!

Since you added a flower to Find A Grave Memorial# 151549305 (Elwood Humphrey), I just wanted to let you know that another volunteer asked me to add Elwood's photo to the memorial she created. Apparently, she created the memorial in January 2014 but did not know which cemetery he was buried in. I am transferring the photo to the memorial she created and deleting mine - in case you want to add a flower to the former. It is Find A Grave Memorial# 123829223.
