I am a fan of history and I love the history you find in cemeteries, especially the history you find in the cemeteries of the old south.

I have always wondered about my family history and Find A Grave and other genealogy sites have given me the opportunity to trace my families roots. And to my surprise traced them to Scotland and the Lewis-Oates Plantation in North Carolina and the biggest surprise of all, the Mayflower.

Ester Cromartie was the 2nd wife of Lewis Cogdell Oates, and the daughter of Peter Patrick Cromartie and Sarah Boone Sessions, and granddaughter of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane. Anyone who descends from this family are Mayflower and Jamestown Descendants of Stephen Hopkins.
