I have been doing my genealogy. As I was working on it, I thought it would be appropriate to add family members here as I found their final resting places. I am interested in both my father's family (Heimel) and my mother's family (Liguori), reaching back as far as I can get them.
I have sent in a suggested edit, to connect Carl Wilbert Baity to his parents. I was wondering if you are not a relative, would you please consider transferring his memorial over to me? We are related through my great grandfather, Julius Franklin Baity.
Pfc Clarence B. Lewis Jr Private First Class Clarence B. Lewis Jr was a soldier in the 1st Field Artillery Observation Battalion. He was killed on 30 July 1943 in Sicily. He was buried in the temporary American Cemetery GELA in Sicily, in the neighborhood where he was killed.
He was buried in plot-grave B-24-283, date of burial was 1 August 1943 in the Gela Cemetery. After the war his remains were repatriated.
I am writing a book about that cemetery where over 1,200 young American men and women were buried, who were killed during the liberation of Sicily.
You took a picture of his grave, can I have your permission to use the picture, of course you will be credited.
If you are related or know the family, or may have documentation and his picture, hope you are willing to share.
Hope to have finished the book next year for the 70th anniversary of operation Husky.
Hoffman, Israel & Mary FYI, we went to the cemetery today but it is a very large cemetery and the Sections are not marked. We found a stone that we believed read Mary Hoffman but the YOB didn't look like 1848 nor was there another Hoffman in the area.
We are going to try to contact the cemetery for a map and try again.
Have a great New Year and we hope to be able to claim and fulfill this request in the near future but even if we get a map, winters here in PA are sometimes very bad and keep us inside. LOL
