There was a cemetery less than a block from the two-room school house where I had first and second grade. I used to really enjoy going there to play, and read the stones, and wonder about the people. When I got to high school age, that cemetery was in between where I lived and the school, and the shortest route was to walk through it. So, I did. There also is a lovely shelter house in there, where I would sit and read a book for a while on nice days after school.
Now my grandparents are buried there, but I live 2,000 miles away, it seems. So, I enjoy going to Morris Hill and the other cemeteries, and visiting with those interred there, instead. Some stones tell you just enough to whet your appetite, and there is no more to the story to be found. I love cemeteries.
If you want to see a spectacular picture of the cemetery and the shelter house I mentioned, the cemetery is Elmwood, in Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois. Thank you for writing.
