Can't read a grave stone?
Don't use chalk!
It's as simple as using your LED Flashlight!

This is the safest method of reading these old graves and I feel the most effective. We use an LED flashlight, the higher the lumens, the better. The flashlight we use has 1700 lumens. Shine from left to right, at the edge of the grave, the letters pop right out. We upgraded from an 860 lumen flashlight (EA4) but it worked great as well.
When the sun is too bright, we use our umbrella to provide shade, then light it up.
