I just saw the lovely note you placed on the page I created for Wagner Dodge. In his memory, I thank you.
You might be interested to know that there was a film called RED SKIES OF MONTANA (1952) starring Richard Widmark which was loosely based on the Mann Gulch Fire, but only _very_ loosely (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045074/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1). It has spectacular footage of how the smokejumpers actually fought a fire, and the accusations of cowardice against Widmark's character are in the historic record as being leveled against Dodge by the father of one of the the men killed, but the rest of the film's structure and the dialogue are so dull that it kills any interest created by the fire scenes. The film is out of print except for a Spanish Region 2 edition available through Amazon. However -- I just looked this up as I've been writing this note -- if you get the FXM channel on your cable or satellite system, it's going to be on at 7:30 a.m., Monday morning, April 1.
