I am a niece of Lloyd "Pete" Herbert Hughes, who was a Medal of Honor Recipient. Researching his life has been an honor and a privilege. Here are his crew members of the "Ole Kickapoo."|
I adopted the Bodan Cemetery in Pollok, Angelina County, Texas, USA because of the many relatives of mine who are buried there. About 40% of those buried there are related to me.
You have my permission to use the grave marker photographs I have uploaded in any genealogy project. They are not one-of-a-kind photographs. You certainly do not, however, have my permission to use my photographs of family members in some money making scheme. Don't laugh, it has already been tried - and stopped.
The transcription of the grave marker on any memorial is important. Please add them. If you have a problem with adding transcriptions of the grave marker, please take it up with Find A Grave. They have a field for it, they, and I, ask that you fill it.
I registered on Find A Grave on 9 Jul 2001 when there were "only" 2.5 million memorials. For some reason, I didn't create my first memorial until 29 Jul 2001.

|Jrigdon||RE: Galba Fuqua|
To answer your question more directly. There is no biography or genealogy of Galba that I know of. There are a lot of historical sites that tell of him but not his family or of his connection to Benjamin Fuqua or William King. Several sites mention that it was thought that he was Mexican. He wasn't, he was descended from French Huguenots that were driven out of France in the 1600s and moved to Virginia. I have collected quite a bit on them and the Fuqua family but most of that in bits and pieces and cemented together (hopefully!) with census and other records. William King's Find A Grave page was just turned over to me and I want to write an article detailing how the three of them are connected but I need to do more research first. I think that at least one other Alamo defender may also be closely tied with them. Today I finally completed the Find A Grave page for another long lost relative after about 4 months of research.
Which Fuqua is your MIL descended from?

I have all of his ancestry back to 1600 in France. Well the Fuqua side anyway. Send me your E-mail address and I'll send you an invitation to my family tree on Ancestry and you copy whatever you like. I don't want to put my family tree on this public site but here is part of his part of it.
Galba Fuqua 2nd Youngest to Die at Alamo (1819 - 1836)
Silas Fuqua Va - Tx (1783 - 1834)
father of Galba Fuqua 2nd Youngest to Die at Alamo
Joseph Fuqua Rev War (1756 - 1829)
father of Silas Fuqua Va - Tx
Ralph Fuqua (1694 - 1777)
father of Joseph Fuqua Rev War
there is a VERY good Fuqua site at http://www.tommymarkham.com/Fuqua/Fuqua-3.htm
Sorry Find A Grave won't let me hotlink so you'll have to cut and paste.

FYI, Benjamin was the uncle of Galba Fuqua that willed killed at the Alamo. (Galba's father was Silas Fuqua.) Ben was also the brother in law of William King that was also killed at the Alamo. (Benjamin's wife was William's sister Nancy King.) William and Galba were members of the Gonzales Relief Force that marched from Gonzales to the Alamo in late February 1836. I'm sure that Benjamin would have been with them if he hadn't died in January. The Fuqua brothers Silas, Benjamin and Ephram were all born in Bedford Co, Va and came to Texas in about 1830 by way of Alabama. They brought with them a letter of Introduction to Stephen F Austen dated 3 Jan 1828 from a mutual friend in Tuscumbia, Colbert Co, Alabama.

no, and I changed them. last year Findagrave had a photo glitch and many of the photos uploaded into random memorials, sometimes far far away from the area. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Some one notified me that I had made duplicate of Edward Mallicoat so I checked and found that I had made three duplicates which I have deleted it was due to the spelling one son spelled his name with only one L the rest with two. I contacted a family member today who I know personally to verify everything and her father, Roy is the only one who uses just one L

Thank you for the last name correction for Robert Jordon # 80416334. The last name is clearly JORDAN. I work with several groups on KIA's. We'll pursue changing the last name through DOD, VVMF, Virtual Wall, Coffeltdatabase, etc, so we're all correct and in sync. Thanks again. Allen

I was able to figure out what was on the headstones and I put it under the photos on the memorial pages. If you don't see it let me know.

I am wondering if you are of relation to him as you have clippings of him and his wife. I am his relative looking into more information into his family and wondered if you have any information on other family members of his. More specifically his father, Samuel Edwin Dickey Johnson and mother Margaret Elizabeth. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Yes, everything I ran across while doing those names had "Lula" or just D.E. Pierce on it.
