general james lingan

I am writing to inquire about the place of buriel of General Lingen. My name is Mike Stanton and my family history of Georgetown ancestors dates to around 1800.

A William Edwin Cumberland is an ancestor of mine who is on the 1800 census for Washington D.C. in Ward 1 of the city near the Potomac River. He was a builder of houses according to an original family history of my grandmothers. He lived at the corner of 20th and K st. He also hunted with what was known in those days as Goose Guns and punt boats on the Potomac River.

I have one copy of a city document from the property office of the city of Washington detailing an agreement between General Lingan and my ancestor William Cumberlan. This document dated 1805 is written up as an Indenture between William Cumberland and General Lingan and describes a house built for General Lingan by William Cumberland in Washington DC. I dont remember the Lot or Square numbers of the property but I can find them in my files if needed.

Would you know any information about General lingans holdings in Washington or the mention of William Cumberland in other documents concerning buildings he may have built with or for General Lingan?

I have read the stories of General Lingan on the web page with his buriel lot photos and your name at the bottom and email address. I know General Lingan is noted in the archives of the Newseum in Washington DC as the first news reporter dying in the line of duty as the account of his death in Baltimore shows.

I would be most thankful for any information you may have or references you could give me.

Sincerely, Mike Stanton
Springfield Va.

Thank you for adding the photo for my grand uncle's memorial. I would like to ask for your permission to use this photo (and other you may have taken of members of my family) in my family tree on I would give you credit as the photographer and would provide a link to the memorial as the source.

Thank you for considering my request,

I'm curious, why, if this child of the late Pres. Kennedy was given name, did they not put it onto her stone as they did for the son, Patrick?
