Find a Grave ID

Bio

I first became aware of Find A Grave while on a visit to Virginia, when I decided to try to locate the grave of my late uncle, who had passed before I was born. All I knew was that he had been a career navy man, and had lived in Norfolk. The only information that turned up in a Google search, was his Find A Grave memorial. It not only told me what cemetery he was in, but gave his section and plot location as well! I never would have found him, if not for the kindness of a Find A Grave volunteer, who created his memorial 3 years before I even thought of looking for him. I believe in the importance of recording the final resting places and memories of our ancestors, so since then I have been "paying it forward", by becoming a photo volunteer, and creating or updating memorials whenever I can. (plus, walking cemeteries is good exercise for me!)

One important feature I like, is that whenever I upload photos from my iPhone, it automatically adds the GPS (lat/lon) stamp to the memorial.. when you click on this link, it will show a map of the cemetery, with a pin in the EXACT location of the grave! I feel this is a very important tool for those who are searching for the actual grave site, and will help save many hours of searching, particularly in large cemeteries. Because of this, I will add a photo to a memorial that already has one, for the specific purpose of adding the GPS (lat/lon) link.. so if you see a duplicate photo from me on one of your memorials, this is why. If my photo is a little different, or clearer, or a different angle than the original, and there is room in the memorial, I will tend to leave it. If it is an EXACT duplicate, though, I will immediately delete it after uploading.. it will still leave the GPS link behind. So, if you manage a memorial and I have added a similar photo to it, if you need the room, feel free to delete it! Also, feel free to use any of my photos on other genealogy sites (a photo credit would be nice) That's what they are for!

If you are a relative of the subject of any of my memorials, I would be happy to transfer management to you.
If you have any additional information or corrections to make, please use the "edit" function, rather than emailing me.

Always happy to help with photo requests in the central Connecticut, Hartford/New Haven corridor.. just let me know!
