This set a example and Grave Law in all America!

His first bill he submitted, sponsored, and was passed was the Virginia Cemetery Bill, which forbade any destruction and/or plowing them under of them!

He alone saved the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) from being becoming extinct when he was Chairman of Virginian Wildlife. Yes this is the Bird which the Country TURKEY attained that name. Tom, hen , and poults all.
Benjamin Franklin wanted this as our national Bird.

You recently requested that I add "Sr." to this memorial. Although I know he has a son named James, I have found to references to add Sr. to his site. Please provide the source for such an addition, and I will be happy to add Sr. and the source to the memorial.

Thanks
Thanks for your fine research on your own family and your efforts to improve Find A Grave. I do not spend as much time here as I once did, but I still value the site and consider it a very important public source of information. Two suggestions that you made on memorials of my family I was unable to accept. The one where you gave place of birth and death, I will be more than happy to add if you have documentation. I do believe in accuracy in what is posted here and just because the family lived and were buried somewhere is not enough to speculate that this was where they were born or died. This family had property in more than one county in the West Midlands and beyond, so those were not a location to me to speculate.

The other is on the use of "Sr." While is is used by some today, it has never been a correct social custom. The first of a name is the only one at the birth as a child and has no suffix. A son with the same name is the one that is different by the use of Jr. This is confused further when someone born as the III takes Jr. after the death of his grandfather. Thanks again. Doc

I can see how it would be easy to miss-understand this Bio. Re-reading it may help......."speaking in fifty-two states, territories and provinces, and in 1,250 different cities and towns, including every large city in the United States and Canada." Notice he said states territories and Provinces in the "United States and Canada". Currently there are 5 US territories that are inhabited and 11 without residents. In Canada there are 10 Provinces and 3 territories. So he had a chance to speak in 52 out of 68, however at his death there were only 48 states. With a little research I think the number would be closer to 60. He probably started his public speaking during the civil war and there was only 34 states at the start of the war.
