Bio Photo We work as a team: Russian-Danish family living in London. Having just completed a few years in the Middle East, we are moving to our next adventure in China. County-keepers for England. Being foreigners in the countries we live in, we are very interested in all Russians and Danes who found their last resting place away from their home countries. We will be grateful for any comments, advice and links to memorials. Thanks to this wonderful website we have found many friends all over the world and the amount of mails we receive increase all the time. We appreciate all the mails and ALWAYS reply but sometimes it takes longer than we would like to.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We prefer to get your questions and corrections through e-mail (use the EDIT tab in the memorial). RE: St Margaret's, Lowestoft
Best photo to check is the notice board photo. If you open up you'll see it's for All Saints & St Margaret's, Pakefield. When you get around to it get in touch and I'll explain as best I can.
Best wishes
Linda

Use of photograph
Hi

I'm researching the Franklin family of Deptford, London and was pleased to find a photograph of yours of the WWI memorial in Camberwell Old Cemetery which includes Edward Thomas Franklin, RN. Is is OK to download and share the photo with a descendant of this family?

Birth dates for Abecasis and Rodrigues Brandon family members
Hi, Julia!
I have acquired a terrifc book called "An Index to the Jewish Community of the British Isles in 1851" by Petra Laidlaw - It is a huge book - and has many thousands of records for just about every Jewish individual living in Great Britain in the mid-19th century. It lists family groups, places of birth, birth years, places of residence, etc. Really a remarkable book for genealogy! For my ancestor family, the Rodrigues Brandons of Barbados and London, it lists the correct birth years for the 2x great aunts, Julia Rodrigues Brandon (1823 - family records state Dec 1823) and Esther Rodrigues Brandon Abecasis (1825 - family records have 22 July 1825). Also the birth year of our family's great great grandfather Joseph Rodrigues Brandon as "1828" - which confirms our family records of his birth date as 8 January 1828. I have not found a record for the sister Lavinia Rodrigues Brandon Abecasis in the book, probably because she lived in the USA during the mid-19th century, and returned to England in the 1880s. However, family records have her birth date as 20 September 1826 - and she was a twin to a brother Abraham Rodrigues Brandon, named for his father - who died within months of his birth in Barbados. The male twin's death record gives us the date of the twins' births. Hope this helps with the listings for my family. The dates on the crypts can be off, frequently because those burying the people did not know the correct birth years and estimated.

For the Abecasis family, Esther's husband Aaron Abecasis is listed in the book as born in "1822" in London (family records state in Whitechapel). Lavinia's husband Judah Solomon Abecasis died in New York City and was buried in Beth Olom Cemetery, Queens, New York. However, I am wondering if Lavinia was buried at Mile End, Sephardi New Cemetery, and is buried near her sisters or Abecasis family members, since she died in Paddington in 1901. Do you have the cemetery's records of burials?

Dear Ms. Marshall,
>
> I would be delighted to meet you at Kensal Green Cemetery on Tuesday, August 19, to visit the Grade II Listed Cooke memorial. I was looking at it only yesterday, with our officer from English Heritage, wondering what we should do about it, and whether the extended family might contribute to its restoration. I appreciate that you have kindly offered to assist with that, so your advice would be much appreciated.
>
> We're also in correspondence with a Bob Cooke, who now lives in the north of England; he sent this astonishing image of the monument from The Tatler of 1903. You may also know the photo taken c.1967, also attached below. To complete the set, this close-up of the sculpture was taken for a condition survey of all the then-Listed monuments conducted by the Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery on behalf of English Heritage in 2012.
>
> In the wake of that survey, the monument is now on the Heritage At Risk Register, with a high priority; this is no honour, as it means that it is extremely vulnerable and in urgent need of attention. The principal question is whether to attempt a full restoration, replacing broken and lost elements, or simply to stabilise what remains, and perhaps erect a new plaque with a drawing or relief of the original monument to record its history. EH subsequently commissioned professional condition reports on all the monuments At Risk, from David Odgers; his report is also here attached. As you will see, he only addressed immediate remedial repairs; we would seek quotes from specialist monumental sculptors were we to opt for a full restoration.
>
> These, at least, are the issues. I'm free all day on Tuesday, so we could meet at either cemetery gate: the Top Gate, on the western side of the site, is nearest Kensal Green station (the usual option if you're coming by tube or London Overground), while the Main Gate on the eastern side is adjacent to several bus routes. En route from the Top Gate, we could also look at the recent restoration of the Blondin memorial, which included some new sculptural elements, as an example of what can be done.

RE: Sgt Hylton Carlyle George
Kia Ora from Wellington, New Zealand
Sgt Hylton Carlyle George's birth date is calculated on an age count back from death. This death date and information was accessed from Cenotaph - Auckland data base for war records for New Zealand Military Personnel who died during the conflicts New Zealand was in. His year of birth may also be found searching New Zealand Births, deaths and marriages - Historical records.
I am currently in the process of researching all military personnel who attended Scots College, Wellington who died in the 2nd World War. I have yet to visit base records in Trentham, Upper Hutt, Wellington (near where I live) to get his full date/month/year of birth.
Hylton Carlyle George was the son of Sinclair Munro George and of Edith George (nee Butterfield), of Alfredton, Wellington, New Zealand.

Hi - Thanks for your quick response to my edit request. It was so interesting to read more about his work and his life's accomplishments! We are not to far from his birthplace in Wisconsin! My daughter will be studying in London during the upcoming fall semester and it's on her list to visit the museum! Many thanks again!

RE: Abecasis
For extended family members in the 19th century, I have a series of books that include obituaries for the Sephardic Jewish community of Victorian England. It also includes many individuals who lived in the USA, since the families were all interconnected.

RE: Abecasis
The birth year of Abraham Rodrigues Brandon Abecasis (called "Brandon") is from American records, as he was born in New York in 1857. He died in Willesden, Middlesex, England.
