Bio Photo My love of cemeteries began when I was a young girl and my great-grandmother took me up on the hill to the cemetery. She called it the "family cemetery", and I have called it that ever since. I believe we can honor our loved ones even after they are gone from us.

For you:

"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."
Numbers 6:24-26

Answering your request
Hi, you had submitted a request for the Hein Cemetery in Putnam Co, WV some time ago to my old profile. I apologize that I hadn't answered you back, but I lost my log in info. Here are the instructions that I have:

Located in Heizer Creek, the first gravel road on left past the bridge, .2 miles on the W.R. Hein farm; go through the cattle gate near the red shed and up the hill.

These directions are what is written in the publication called "Putnam County Cemeteries" (Addendum), published in 2001 by the Upper Vandalia Historical Society.

Since it was written 14 years ago it's possible landmarks have changed, and there is no notes whether this is private property.

Good luck!

PS. If you go there and you happen to find a grave for any Withrows, I'd love a picture!

RE: Lucinda Kingery
Hi Pam,
Thank you for the offer of the death certificate of Lucy's son. I did find it on Lucy isn't the problem, it's proving her parents. Bailey is such a common name and by the 1880 census, Lucy's mother is already dead. Regina is a step mom. Also, they (DAR) expect a Death Cert. from a 1943 death and don't understand why I don't have it.

I already have 7 approved DAR ancestors but this is the only one one from the Gilliam/Bailey branch and it us just so darn irritating to be stuck....unable to find a 1943 document.

I submitted all the records that I had found, I thought that I had done a pretty good job of presenting circumstantial evidence to prove the line but the application was rejected.

Oh well, the hunt continues!

Your California Cousin,

RE: Lucinda Kingery
Oh my! It sounds like Lucinda's death certificate might not ever be found. Would you ask Lenore if she knows if there was ever a birth certificate for Lucinda or anything to prove her parents.

Thank You Again,

RE: Lucinda Kingery
Hunter and Hunter Funeral Services/Mortuary in Madison, WV was mentioned in her Obituary. They appear to be out of business but they would have needed the death certificate.

This is important to me because I trying to prove an application to DAR and to the Jamestowne Society.

If you find anything, please let me know. If I find anything, I will let you know too.

Cousin Debbie

They also said that in 1943 she could not have been buried without a Death Certificate. It is in a dusty old box somewhere!

RE: Roy Gilliam
Hi Pam,

Luncinda's daughter Stella Gilliam was my great grandmother.
The WV Historical Society told me the cemetery would have the death certificate and probably forgot to file it with the state. I do not know if it is true but it sounds reasonable. I have been unable to find a phone number for the cemetery.
