I can never find records of my ancestors with the middle initials and middle names that other researchers give them. I must be looking at the wrong original records. ;-)
If you want to make up names for your ancestors, okay. Just don't do it for mine, please!
Just when I think to have seen it all for middle names given long after death to ancestors. "Christopher Columbus Choate".
The subject guy was the fifth in a series of Christopher Choates, none with a middle name. This one was born in England in 1642 and died in Maryland in 1692 (just 200 years after Columbus's alleged "discovery" of America which Columbus thought was Asia). This Christopher lived before the U.S.A. was an independent country and before the 1900s when Columbus Day was made a U.S. holiday. There was not and is not a Columbus day in England. More, "Christopher Columbus" is an American spelling of the explorer's actual name and not one that he himself used. In Spain the explorer, born in Genoa (now an Italian city), was called "Cristobal Colon".
