I am a resident of Warren County, Pennsylvania having moved here after I retired from federal service in 2009. In fact, I have twice retired from the US Army. First, as a Lieutenant Colonel and second, as a Department of the Army Civilian working as an Inspector General at CECOM and Fort Monmouth. I have put the skills I learned as an officer and an IG to good use conducting research on people for ancestry.com and for find a grave.

I chose to settle in the Warren area because I grew on a farm in Chautauqua County, New York and I still have many cousins and other relatives living there. It is also the area where many of my New England ancestors chose to move to in the late 1700's and early 1800's. So, it is an area rich in my family's genealogy.

I am a 12th generation American. Most of my ancestors immigrated to New England, in the 1600's, during the Great Purtian Migration. And they settled in every state in New England, fought in all the colonial wars and founded many of the towns and cities there. The first Ackley was Nicholas who settled in colonial Connecticut in 1635. Twenty of my direct ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. Most of my ancestors were farmers, but there were also Governors, soldiers, explorers, and there was a pirate and one was an unforunate woman who was hanged as a witch in Salem.

I am interested in researching the following families: Ackley, Philbrick, Crandall, Bridges, Kelsey, Nichols, Harvey, Knapp, Smith, Robinson, Thompson, Blyth, Carnahan, Peterson, Morey, Town, Wilcox, Putnam, Skiff, May, Mathewson, and Root. Most of these families were early settlers in the western New York counties of Erie, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua, the western Pennsylvania counties of Erie, Warren, and Crawford, and the eastern Ohio counties of Ashtabula and Lake.
