Bio and Links
Bio Photo My first experience with family genealogy was 1978, shortly after my paternal grandfather died. After exploring my family as far as I could and no real knowledge of how to research my family I put it aside for another 8 or 9 years. When Jim and I married in 1986 we began a discussion about genealogy and found we were both very interested in it. By then more and more people were exploring their roots. I'm not sure how we discovered the many wonders the Fort Worth Public Library and Regional National Archives had to offer, but once we did there was no stopping us. Only 30 miles away we made a trip to one of them every weekend for many years. Now we do our research in the comfort of our home, spending many, many hours combing the internet for clues to those elusive ancestors. We have always loved old cemeteries, at one time spent countless hours helping clean the local abandoned cemeteries. We don't do that now that our cemeteries are perpetually cared for by the Johnson County Cemetery Association. During that time my husband and I researched and ordered about 32 CSA tombstones from the government for Balch Cemetery. There are more that have not been added, so let me know if you find one in the cemetery.

Please stop by my mom and dad's memorials:

Angel children from our families to remember;

❤Raymond M. Brown, Jr - Mother-in-law's baby brother

❤David Michael Godi - husband's cousin

❤Dora Dee Leach - my mother's little sister

Two very special children from my hometown that should be remembered, but have been forgotten until now.

❤Unknown Infant Found at Bridge

❤Little Slave Girl Killed by Bear

Two beautiful little girls from our area who were abducted from their homes and murdered. Hope you will take the time to visit their memorials. Because of the work the family of Amber Hagerman did in years to follow most states if not all states have the Amber alert that is sent out when a child is missing.

My mother's name is Helen Pearl Brown Simpson
and my dad's is Billy Ray Simpson but both are still very much alive and doing very well to be in their middle 80's. The above have all passed and I have been working on the Brown family tree so far back into the 1800's. If you need in anyfo, please contact me. :)

We still have snow on the ground, but when it clears I will get your photo. I have the following information for you.

Jessed died in Candler's Hospital (General Hospital #1, Division #30) on the 17th of February and was buried on the 19th in the Confederate section of Old City Cemetery. (SB0110409 - Jesse A. Snoddy). He was one of 7 who died in Candler's that month and 1 of 115 in Lynchburg's hospitals; Lynchburg was the second largest hospital system in the Confederacy.
He was buried in grave lot 195, Line 1, Column 2. The casket was 6'2" x 18" by undertaker George Diuguid.

Beverly, thanks so much for the pictures.

FYI, my wife, Molly C Mahana (the one branch that spelled it different), is a cousin to all the people in the cemetery.

amanda truitt
your amanda truitt 108742580 in Balch cemetery was put in 2011 with no stone?
this is my ancestor and in 1900 she was living with her son george and a widow
I found 80118171 in N Mexico with a head stone
with her name and correct dates
I think the obits that were mentioned may have been there because her husband is buried in the Balch cemetery?
Are you close to the cemetery to straighten out?
any help is appreciated if this is a duplicate
would appreciate it being deleted? so as not to confuse

Martha Spaulding Mahaney
Hi Bev:
I found your wonderful work on the "Findagrave". You have listed my family as well as your own. I saw that your maiden name was Mahaney and recognized that you connect to Louie Turner who descends from the 2nd wife, Martha Spaulding of Ben Mahaney of Gasconade Co. MO.

Louie and I met when I was living in Hillsboro, TX. As you probably know, Martha was a triplet. I descend from one of her triplet sisters, Mary Lara Ann Spaulding who m. John Thomas Stites. He was killed and is buried at Vicksburg. You and I aren't blood related but I appreciate your work on "Findagrave" and posting it online. Thank you so much for your time. GG granddaughter of John Thomas Stites and Mary Lara Spaulding Stites. Cheers, Ellie Stites Swanger, CO
