It began with a simple search. I started out looking up the cemetery where my sister is buried and I found this site. To my surprise, someone had taken a photo of my sister's grave marker and it really made me fill up with emotions. It's been years since I have had the opportunity to visit my sister but here, I feel I can visit her when ever I want to.

Now, I hope I contribute here as well however, I ride the bus so I have to stick to areas where public transport runs. A special Thank You to those who have added photos of my relatives. It means a lot to me.

If I add a photo to your memorial that has been already created, I mean no harm. To me, I think that the family member(s) wouldn't mind seeing another image of the monument/grave marker. In my mind, it's better to share the image rather than let it go to waste (waste meaning that it gets deleted without anybody seeing it). If you want me to remove a photo from your memorial, just "Kindly" let me know.

Lately, I truly have been enjoying walking through the cemetery and taking photos. I can remember my first experience going to a cemetery; My sister's grave. We'd visit, leave flowers and look at other grave markers while we were there.

☆- ♫ - ♫ - ♫ - ♫ - ♫ - ♫ - ♫ - ♫ -☆

Now, I can spend hours in a cemetery and often I lose track of time. I love looking at the different types of markers created over the years. While looking at these markers, I often ask myself, what were their lives like, what kind of person were they?

I want to thank everyone who has kindly sent me info/edits. I appreciate it very much and remember this information are for those that are out there who might be doing research on their families, friends, etc. Also, thank you for leaving flowers on the memorials. They appreciate it very much. Remember, we're all in this together.

Poems:

"Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone,
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone,
It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn,
You did not know that I'd exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago,
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew,
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you." - Walter Butler Palmer

"Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep" written in 1932 by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die. ✞
