use of photo
Hi Lynn,

I'm working on my cousin's family tree, and was hoping I could use your photo of George and Amanda (Bagby) Van Why (Find A Grave Memorial# 76254138) in my family tree at Ancestry. They are his paternal grandparents. I would, of course, credit you for the photo. Thanks for considering my request. Linda

Info on Rosalie Maidie Clifton
Hello, Lynn. I have been working on my dad's family side of the tree (William Louis Clifton), which we know very little. I've been learning more and more thanks to and Find a Grave. I have seen your name a great deal on Find a Grave. Would you know anything about Rosalie Maidie Clifton's siblings? Her brother, Talbort Lewis, was my grandfather. So much of the information you have provided has helped me a great deal. I cannot thank you enough. I only wish I had started this journey while my dad was still alive. If there is anything I can do to help you, please let me know. Victoria (Clifton) Darrow

Thank you for posting on this site. I am searching for surviving heirs, or family members that might be able to help answer my questions. Please either message or email me privately.

Thank you again.

RE: Source of plot numbers
I am not surprised at that at all. That fits in with my experience. No one in these counties ever seems to have came up with a system to map their cemeteries.

It is from the canvass and survey which was later published in the book entitled "Our People And Where They Rest," James W. Tyner, Maxine Tyner and Alice Tyner Timmons, on behalf of the American Indian Institute, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. 1969-1985 Vol III, pp. 26-28 (Library of Congress No. QE99-C5-T97) See their map(s) for use as a quick locator tool for graves here. The book is available online. If you need the URL, send me a message.

Many cemeteries do not have ANY system of records, such as the one in Westville. Stilwell at least has an index card system. Tyner's "system" is the only system at all for many of the cemeteries, I have found. My theory is that in the absence of an "official" plot system, it is a good way for someone to locate a grave they are looking for.
Eastern Oklahoma District Library system libraries have this book in their reference system also; Tahlequah, Muskogee, Stilwell, etc.
