Bio Photo "In all of us, there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from.

Without this enriching knowledge, we are left with a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, without the sure knowledge of our provenance, this yearning yields to an emptiness, a vacuum and the most disquieting loneliness."

Stephens Family SC
Do you know where I can obtain copies (printed or electronic) of the histories you mention in Samuel H. Stephens' Findagrave listing:
"The Book of Record and Brief Family History" by Edward Besaw Stephens and
"A Family History" by John R. Stephens

I am trying to trace my Stephens family back to Samuel H.

Thanks,

RE: Lucius B. Martin
Hi John,
I'm wondering if L.B. Martin's Uncle "L.B. Martin might have had a brother named John. My Grand Daddy did not, but he had an Uncle via Stephen Martin named Lucius Bellinger who died young. I'm betting he was named for this Uncle.

Douglas Powell, Jr., b. Brunswick Co., VA. d. Robeson Co., NC.
Hi,

I have viewed the LW&T of Douglas Powell in Robeson Co., NC. dated 2/17/1842 and there is no mention of "children in Georgia". This LW&T was for Douglas Powell, III, child of Douglas Powell, Jr., b. ca. 1795 Robeson Co., NC. d. aft. 2/17/1842 Robeson Co., NC. (LW&T proven Feb. 1842 Court Term). Brother Barnabus Powell and John Lewis acted as witnesses. Douglas Powell, III married Susannah/Susan Ann Bradshaw in Roberson Co., NC. 7/28/1820. His wife was identified in Robeson Co., NC. probate records 1842 - 1849 as Susannah Ann Powell (also listed as Susan Powell) and his children were identified as Harriet Powell wife of Asa Phillips, Stephen Powell, Harrison Powell, Jacob Powell, Brady Powell and Edy Powell.

I agree that Douglas, Jr. had sons Stephen, Jethro and Douglas, III. He also had son Barnabus Powell and I suspect Daniel and Nicholas Powell. I am looking for copy of LW&T of Douglas Powell, Jr., if one exists, which lists the land and personal property left to those of his children cited.

Any help appreciated. Jan Lawson.

Stephens Family - Can you help me?
My gg grandmother, Sarah Isabella Stephens Allison, was a sister of John R. Stephens. They were two of Benson Stephens' children. I am trying to prove that Benson was a son of Samuel and Mary Powell Stevens/Stephens for DAR membership. Do you have a copy of John R. Stephens' memoir? I've also heard about a family history written by Edward Besaw Stephens. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Deborah

Charles McDuffie Martin
Epictetus
I am contacting you regarding Charles McDuffie Martin son of Stephen Martin and Sarah Touchstone.

I was recently contacted by another Findagrave volunteer who is questioning whether Charles as a first name should be associated with McDuffie Martin son of Stephen and Sarah and who married Emily A. Davis.

Thus far I have not been able to find in my records why I included Charles as a part of this man's name. Please give me your opinion on the use of Charles with the McDuffie Martin in question and if at all possible a reference for that usage.

I appreciate this very much.

Regards
Ed Hightower

RE: Flowers left for Allen Parker
Yes, I am related to them. They have a daughter Dicey Parker who married Alexander Edge. They had a son Alexander who married Lucinda Graham. Alexander and Lucinda had a daughter named Martha who married Benjamin Jones. Martha and Benjamin had a son, who is my great grandfather James Reason Jones, born in Pope county, Arkansas. James married Lonnie Belle Warren and had a son Chester L jones who is my grandfather.

RE: A Quick Hello
Thank you, John, for checking in and for your prayers and good wishes. My oncologist won't use the word "cure" until I've been cancer-free for five years, but it's coming up on two years and the quarterly CT-scans have all been negative.

Thanks again, and I hope that all's well with you.
