Retired National Park Service ranger, after 30 years. Also am a huge baseball historian and used Find a Grave for years to locate and research the lives of old ballplayers, especially those of the 19th century and pre-WWII. The "Heroes of the Cassin Young" project grew from the baseball interest. The USS Cassin Young (DD793) destroyer is part of Boston National Historical Park where I worked and I gave tours on it for 15 years. I decided that just having the names (plaque) of those 23 killed was not good enough. Their lives needed to be recorded, no matter how short some of them were. Born and raised in central Mass, I have lived in Boston since 1965 (college) and bought a house in 1977, one and quarter miles from Fenway Park and am a season ticket payer since 1988. Have traveled to 49 states and have visited 200-plus national park areas and have seen MLB in 52 ballyards. I also can take photos, having some 50,000 slides and now thousands of digital pix in the computer. On good days I can play a decent round of golf.
