Hi (Rosana Nance)

I came across your F.A.G. profile a few days ago, and although reticent about posting, I thought- I'll give it a shot. I have been conducting a bit of a genealogical trail for my family, within the last few months. There was a name that popped up, surname- Nance, which leads me here.

I am descended from Mary A. Cavender Duncan's daughter, Julia Duncan (married name- Foust). I know that Mary's mother was Sarah Elizabeth Nance, which mean perhaps we may be related.

I try to be as thorough as possible, to get names correctly associated with the right people, as it should be... I know that Mary A. Cavender's mother was a Nance, but mind you, I'm lost in terms of and if Rosana Nance is the mother. Do you know the names or lineal descent of Reuben, Nance, Jr. and Rosana's children?

I have found a reference in lieu of Reuben's F.A.G. that purportedly his wife was a Francis Nance. I'm not saying this is not possible, but perhaps it was a second marriage or perhaps an error?

Reuben Nance, Jr. (F.A.G.)-

I see that a lady named Joyce is connected to you and via I may message her as well, the same response I am leaving. If you could assist me with the proper names et al, I can properly get the right association to who is who in the Nance line.

Many Regards-

Hi! I am sorry it hs taken so long to get back to you about the Nance family. I have a family history that was done a few years ago tracing the Nances back to the 1300s, concentrating on the direct line of Trula Nance. If you would be interested in talking about it or having a look baa t it you can email me anytime.

I think this memorial you created is:

Robert Layne b. 7-11-1759 (His headstone has Jul, but you have June)St. James Northern Parish, Goochland, VA.

He d. 4-12-1845, Springfield, Clark Co., OH

He married Elizabeth Randolph (Cemetery has many Randolphs.)

Children: James, Robert Farris, Lewis, Woodson, Susannah "Susan", unknown namd daughter, and Elizabeth.

I have him a Rev. soldier. I have more notes if you would like them.

RE: Maj. Gen. Gouverneur K. Warren
Hi LaDene,
You are welcome. As you can guess, we hear quite a bit of not so very nice things regarding our Gouv. Jim and I hope to set the record straight once and for all. Remembrance Day..weekend actually is Nov. 23rd & 24th. I haven't checked myself, but I imagine if you go onto the National Parks website they may have more information on there. My regular email address is I'll keep you updated as soon as I hear anything. God bless your whole family, and thank you for your service! I will keep your boy in prayer. I have to ask, how is it that you came to be an admirer of General Warren? It's common to hear Grant,Chamberlain,Burnside, Longstreet, Jackson or Lee, but Gouv was a little more obscure for most.My cousin's husband is a ACW historian in this area and he is on FB too. His name is Jim Lamason. The group that is the main group of V Corps re-enactors has a FB page. It was the same group that Brian Polhanka was part of. The interest in this is relatively new for me. My interest was mostly French and Indian War period through Colonial and the Revolutionary War. In fact I am a maker and sutler of historically correct leather and beaded goods for that era, and my business partner is an old re-enactor that is a bladesmith and historian in his own right. Hope to see you on FB.

RE: Maj. Gen. Gouverneur K. Warren
I am General Warrens cousin. His Father Sylvanus and my gg Grandfather Hiram, were brothers. Thank you for counting Gouv as one of your military hero's. I don't know where you are located, but we the family and the men that re-enact V Corps, will be having a special Remembrance Day this year at Gettysburg. My cousin's husband and I are in the begging tsages of writing a book about Gouv. After the parade we will be going to Gouv's monument on Little Round Top to pay our respects. If you're in the area, you are most welcome to march with us and observe the ceremony at Little Round Top. I take it you are a military person yourself. Army? Thank you for writing back. If you are on Facebook, you can look me up by Sheree L. Reed Rana.
All the Best,
