John Cardinal Krol My uncle, John Joseph Cardinal Krol, did NOT "retire from the priesthood". No one "retires" from priesthood! As required by Church law, he submitted his retirement from his office to the Vatican upon his 75th birthday, but John Paul II did not accept it until almost three years later. He retired as Archbishop of Philadelphia in 1988, after 27 years in that position. He then served as Chairman of the Papal Commission on the Vatican Bank for 2-3 years (operating from both Rome and Philadelphia), charged with shoring up Vatican finances weakened by an earlier financial scandal - as well as instituting procedures and safeguards that would make another such financial situation unlikely. He remained in Philadelphia until his peaceful death, dying at the Cardinal's Residence with his successor at his side.
Thomas Edison #1630 Memorial has Mr. Edison's date of death Oct. 18, 1931. You have a photo contribution and narrative saying he visited his home in 1932. Just thought you might want to revisit this. Thank you for your contribution.
