Re: step parents
Thank you for your suggestion. We do not have plans at this time to add anymore family linkage fields, but I'll certainly put the idea into the hopper.

Ella Cornelia (Ellie) Bissell

Your entry for Ella has Find A Grave#125908782 & there is one under E C Bissell #129443070 that I think is the same person. Can you take a look at the gravestone & see if it's the same? (the pic just shows the initials, the same as her brother & father's)
Thanks so much..

Preston Family Cemetery
Memorials #6924597, #6924596, etc. Another website (Geocaching.Com) says David H. Preston, son of Sylvester and Anna (West) Preston, is also buried in this cemetery with a small American flag next to the stone. If you're in the area and have a chance to verify that, another memorial could be added. David served in the 21st Infantry during the Civil War, was wounded at Vicksburg 05/22/1863 and died at Memphis 07/15/63 (or 07/16/63 - records differ). I would normally expect him to be buried in the Memphis National Cemetery but, in addition to the above reference, an inventory of his effects says they were "turned over to Annie Preston" indicating his mother, aware that he was wounded, may have gone south to be with him in the hospital and then taken him home for burial. It's also possible the stone in the cemetery is a cenotaph.

Bishop Smyth
Jesse, I found this article for Bishop Smyth and wasn't sure if you were interested in it. Cheryl

The Extent of the Building
Done in 2863
List of the New Buildings Erected

During the season Bishop Smyth has built an elegant residence on Bluff Street, between Second and Third, next door to the Cathedral, at a cost of $9,000. It was designed and built by John Keenan. It is of brick, three stories high, 50 feet front, and 45 feet depth. It was commenced in May and finished in December. The cut stone work was done by Doner & Schulte, the plastering by John Tierney, the painting by T. P. Walsh, the stone work by Joseph Ryder, and the smith work by D. P. Lenehan. The iron work was finished by Wood & Perot, the fence as it stands alone costing over $1,000. It so is far completed that the Bishop already occupies it for his residence, though we believe more work yet remains to be done in the upper stories.

Joe McPoland's grave
I am Joesph McPoland's granddaughter and that isn't a picture of his grave. From where he and my grandmother are buried you can't see the river. Just thought you would like to know.

Linwood Cemetery
Way back in 2003, you took a photo of Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque County, Iowa, that overlooks the Mississippi River. Would it be a fair statement to guess that that cemetery has been underwater many times in the past?
