Have been doing genealogy with my mom, Beth Robinette for several years. I love going to cemeteries and photographing the graves. My main lines of interest are Bloomer, Lane, Johnson, Hammonds, Peters, Penley, France, Herron, Roberts, Holmes, Napier and Robinette. Most are located in and around Scott Co. If you have relatives in Scott Co., you are most likely related to me or my husband. Since most of the people of Scott Co., are related somehow. I'm sure it is like that in a lot of places but it is prevalent there. My husband Ricky helps me but he does not have a Find A Grave profile. So we just both use this one, though he doesn't want credit (:My mom takes care of the rest (: Most of which are in Carroll and Grayson Co., VA|
EDITS AND OTHER INFO: Please use the edit tab on the memorial. I will respond ASAP. I am not on the computer daily so it may take me a few days to respond, but I will respond. I LOVE getting new information.
MEMORIALS I MANAGE: I try me best to connect everyone. Sometimes this isn't possible due someone else that has a memorial I need to link to and they have not responded. I usually will then try and hyper link them. This is the code:< a href="http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=XXXXXXX">Name< /a>XXXXXXX is where you put memorial number.You will also have to delete the space between < and a in the beginning and end of the code.
CEMETERIES I AM WORKING ON:1. Depews Chapel. I photographed the entire cemetery and am adding photos and memorials.2. Lawson Confederate Memorial. I am going through and adding more info.3. Quillin Cemetery. I am adding more info.
NOTE: I try and omit living survivors from obituaries I post, except for my line and those which are several years old. I know it is public record but I don't want to upset anyone. If I have forgotten to omit and you want them removed, let me know. Also I have posted obituaries in the pictures section. I just found out last month (April 2013) that F.A.G. does not want this done. I think I have removed most of them off my memorials, but if I have put one on your memorial please let me know and I will remove it. Most are from the 1920's-1970's.I have no way of knowing which ones I put them on. I wish F.A.G would let us access the pictures we posted. It is in the profile section. I was trying to be helpful. I'm sorry ):
NOTE: I type up the obituaries EXACTLY how they are written, mispellings and all (:
NOTE TO MYSELF:
Dear Ancestor Your tombstone stands among the rest; neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, and come to visit you. Author -Unknown

|Sam Lawson||Crystal Could you Contact me?|
May I "please" ask you to contact me at my personal email address? I'd like to talk with you and perhaps even invite you to my ANCESTRY tree.
I've stumbled a little bit this morning. I tried to send you messages that explained what I thought was a problem. I have studied this this morning and I think...NOW...that the photos of George Washington TEMPLETON with a wife, Eliza Jane LAWSON and then a photo with a George Washington TEMPLETON with wife Laura JOHNSON...
I "thought" that these two women had married TWO different George W,. TEMPLETON'S...
When I compare the photos...Those photos show the SAME man! I'm backing up and with the photo "proof" am certain that that is the SAME man! I again come to the conclusion that my George Washington TEMPLETON was married TWO times, first to Laura JOHNSON, with her dying on 15 September, 1913, and then George Remarrying to Eliza Jane LAWSON, on 14 October, 1915. Pictures don't lie...and THAT is definitely the SAME person in both photos...
If you would send me an email to my personal address, I will invite you to see my ANCESTRY tree. George Washington TEMPLETON was married twice.
Sorry for all the emails but I've really been at this this morning, Crystal. I now think I have it.
Sam D. Lawson
I am here again to apologize! I have made a terrible mistake...
The George Washington Templeton you have as being married to Lura Johnson IS NOT the same person as the George Washington Templeton that I wrote you about. Please disregard my message!!!!
There was yet another George Washington Templeton, born 11 August, 1893, at Eidson, Hawkins County, TN. and died 7 August, 1933, again, at Eidson, Hawkins County, Tn., killed after falling from a horse, at Eidson.
THIS ONE IS MINE.
I am so sorry for confusing you. Please accept my apology here.
Your George W. Templeton did marry Lura Johnson. Mine married Eliza Jane Lawson. I had made a mistake in thinking that they were the same person and married twice. Evidently, there were TWO George W. Templeton's...Mine and yours. I am red-faced over this mistake on my part. Please forgive me for this.
Geesh! I am updating my record to show this update.Please disregard my earlier message to you.

I have added some photos to the George Washington Templeton FindaGrave Memorial. I have added photos of him with his two wives, Lura Johnson and Eliza Jane Lawson, as well as his death certificate, and a photo of his tombstone. He is said by Templeton descendants to have been buried in the old Lawson Family Cemetery, located on FindaGrave.com, as the Lawson Cemetery, at Murreltown. I just wanted you to know. Thanks so much,
Sam D. Lawson

My name is Marilyn Barnette Winstead. My grand-father was Jimmie D. Barnette. My father was Joe L.Barnette. I was born in Fairview, VA. and raised in Kingsport, TN. I now live in Maryland near Annapolis. My message to you is how very much that I appreciate your time and effort in researching for all the cemetery info in Scott County. I am an avid ancestry buff and your information has, at times, been invaluable. My roots go very deep into Scott County and I sometimes feel that I am kin to everyone who has ever lived there. Ha!Ha! So of there is any way in which I can be of help to your research, please contact me. My email is: email@example.com. Again thank you so very much for your hard work and effort.
|Patrick Harrison||RE: Lucy Harrison|
I have the whole article and page 296 is the following: "The Virginia historian W. G. Stanard, writing in 1924 identified them as Lucy and Hannah because their father's will implied they were the younger daughters," [Every account of the lightning strike asserts that Harrison's daughters died with him. And it is certain that his was not the only death in the family: his executors listed against his estate L1.16.6 as the price paid for "coffins."] - - Stanard, "Harrison of James River VMHB, XXXII (January 1924), 97) Numbers of other writers have taken the Stanard "supposition," and included the same false information about Lucy. Lucy lived a terrible life, she never returned to America and never again saw her brother, Governor Harrison, nor her children and lived in what could be called abject poverty. Hope you can find the article, some library may have the Virginia Magazine or could find the article by Gerald Steffens Cowden, "Spared by Lightning, The Story of Lucy (Harrison) Randolph Necks."
