Bio

I was born an Army brat at Ft. Lewis, WA, 16 Feb. 1953. Subsequently I lived in Racine, WI; Fort Slocum, NY (an island off New Rochelle); Patuxent River NAS, MD; Munich; Vancouver, WA; N. Augusta, SC; Ft. Gordon, GA; and Barksdale AFB, LA. I graduated from Key West HS in 1971, and did my undergraduate work at Mich. State (71-72), Fla. Keys Community College (72-73), and Fla. State (73-75); graduate work also at FSU (75-77) in Religious Studies and Pitt (77-83) in Sociology. I washed out quickly from university life. I moved to LA in 1985 and went into business, in the wine trade. I ended up as a minor bureaucrat in a major urban school system during the day, teaching philosophy in a local community college by night.
My only accomplishment in life is that I have not yet inflicted bad poetry upon the world. (But how many can say as much?)
My first marriage has been to Elizabeth (Mannis) Matz, since 1996.
In later years I have gotten to know Paris very well, to my great pleasure. My current obsession (as my website reveals) is writing the history of Ft. Slocum.
