Bio Photo Who I am:

I'm a loving mom of 2 grown sons, Wife to a "lifetime" Firefighter. I'm always on the go, sleep way too little & drink way too much coffee & hardly get a moment to myself.

When I am not taking care of one of my bunch, I enjoy volunteering my time at local charities &/or food banks. I am thoroughly Blessed beyond measure & LOVE MY LIFE!

About my search:

I recently learned just before my biological fathers death June 11, 2010, he was adopted. He said it was a hurt & pain no child should ever feel. He begged me to find his true family info (it was an inner-family adoption in early 1940's). Even if he wasn't here to learn all the details, at least the truth would be known & no longer treated like he was.... shameful & never worthy enough.

I am eager to connect with any family. Some (but not all the family names involved would be...

The only truth I have gotten is my dad's biological grandmother was Reta/Rita (Lane) Bennett & his biological mothers name was Margaret "Peg" J. Allen. She was abt. 15 @ his birth & unwed. I am now told his REAL last name at birth was David Lee PHILLIPS so I am not sure if it was ALLEN or PHILLIPS & later AFTER the adoption changed to David Lee Lane.

Peg's uncle (Brother to Reta, her mother) Bazil Gregory Lane & his wife Grace Leona (Keelean) Lane adopted him just after birth. I did make contact with an Michael Keelean a couple years ago but found that he along with everyone else on that side of the family (Keelean/Lane) was NOT happy I was searching for the truth. Nor helpful in the least.

I cannot for the life of me, understand as to why no one will quietly come forward with even a tad bit of info. We merely want to set the record straight for once & get some answers. NO ONE DIRECTLY connected to the adoption is alive any longer to our knowledge as of my dad's passing in 2010.

Besides, there is no shame that Grace (Gram as we called her) could not have her own children. We are not saying her or Bazil were a bad people in any light. They were honest, hard working & very Godly people. I know, I grew up with her in our household most of my childhood (after my grandfather Bazil passed away). We just want to put the big picture/puzzle together for our true heritage & background.

I ask any of you with information to please reach out & get to know us. We'd love to meet you & get to know you & hear stories & see pictures about ANY of our relatives. Just stop for a min & think how hard it was for my dad to go 69 yrs without really having any answers as to the 2 people who made him & brought him into this world. That's just wrong on any level & cruel as well.

In the end:
Even if none of you in the family decide to help with the answers. I will promise you this. I will NOT give up, I will never stop fighting for the truth & thanks to some new laws regarding adoptions in Michigan, I don't think it's going to be all that hard. I guess it doesn't hurt to be a super snoop & love to hunt the truth down. Besides the TRUTH ALWAYS comes out!

What can I say, my dad taught me well!

Planning a trip back home to Michigan possibly as early as Spring 2014!!! I'm so excited & cannot wait to get to those records but I can definitely wait until all the snow is gone as I am NOT a snow-bunny anymore. This southern sunshine has me all spoiled ;O)

Her grave marker is in Coburn Cemetery in Strongs, Michigan as well as the Gerald marker.
The cemetery is located on M-28, just east of the Strongs corner.

rita bennett
Julie, My husband and I walked the entire cemetery and only found Rita Bennett. There was Gerald a ways away from her. That was only a standard marker of a child. The other Bennett, Russell and Nona were clear on the other side of the cemetery. Sorry We couldn't have been more helpful.
