|Charles Giere||Pvt Ernest Giere|
Thanks for the information about Ernest Giere buried at Calverton National Cemetery. Although there are differences in month of birth, I believe he is our grandfather the father of Ernesto Giere Jr. my father. Since the late 1940s my father Ernesto searched for his father but was unsuccessful. What we know is Pvt Ernest was assigned in Manila in the early 1920s and started a family with a local Filipina and had 2 children my father and auntie. Years before the 2nd World War started my grandfather pleaded my grandmother and kids to come with him in the US but decline. That's how the family got separated and never reunited eversince. My father while in the Philippine Army started searching for him but failed. My father died on September 4, 1994 about 2 months before my grandfather's demise. My father was 68 and grandpa was 98.

My mommy died when she was 20 years old. I was 2. For 40 years I struggled trying to find where my mom was buried. Yesterday, I found her. Many of you have your mom, or have felt and loved her. If you've lost her; many of you have had a place to go to to talk to her.. To cry to her.. To feel her. I've never had that. I've longed for it for 43 years. A stranger... Someone who has never met me.. Or even talked to me before yesterday; left the warmth of their home, got in their car and drove to the Long Island National Cemetery and took a picture of her marker/tombstone and posted it for me. His name is Gary. I don't even know his last name. But I thank him. So very very much. He has done something for me.. A stranger that he can never imagine has touched my soul and helped it heal just a small tiny bit. Thank you findagrave.com and thank you "Gary." "Cathy Ann Richardson ... I found you. I will be there soon.. I promise. There is so very very much I have to tell you. I Love You Mommy".

Re: Your Message to remove the Long Island National Cemetery Gate re my husband's Find a Grave entry, (82671444)
I called the office of LI National Cemetery at Farmindale, LI, NY today 12/21/15 and asked them the legality of your request to removed the public photo of the Cemetery's gate by you. They indicate that that's a public photo and can be sustained. I received this Cemetery Gate Photo when it was transferred to me.
Perhaps you can call them at 631-454-4949 to confirm this.
They wanted to know who did this, you may want to inform them of your request to do so.
