Bio and Links
Bio Photo I discovered Find A Grave while searching for the grave of my grandfather's brother. This simple little search sent me on a mission to search for my ancestors and get some of my family history on Find A Grave. Once I got hooked on genealogy, I decided I could help others by adding names to the site so that sent me onto my new "hobby" - photographing graves, and now I am totally addicted. I hope my work on Find A Grave will help others in their search or allow them to "visit" a loved one's grave.

I'm not one of those people who think they give a prize for managing the most memorials. If you have any connection to someone that I have created a memorial for, I will gladly transfer it, as long as they are not in my tree.

The Bismarck Tribune did a very nice article on my cemetery project a while back. Click Here to view the article.

I have set up a Tribalpages family tree. Click on the link below to view it.

If I have taken a photograph of your ancestor's tombstone and it is of poor quality (shadows/overgrown with grass/hard to read/etc), please let me know and I will see what I can do about taking a better one. It is hard to take good photographs of all the markers when I am at a cemetery as the angle of the sun is often poor the stones don't photograph well.

If I have helped you in your search, please return the favor and "pay it forward" and do your part to help out someone else.

Thank you for adding all the edits I've put in today. I got one piece of additional information on George W. Philbrick that I didn't think I would find when I did the earlier edit on him.

You really do a great job, and I greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for finding all of the burials that I've requested at Almont Cemetery, Glen Ullin Cemetery, and Saint Johns Cemetery. I have a lot of relatives in Morton County, ND and they are all related to my maternal grandfather and he was born in Morton County, ND too.

I finally read your newspaper article; what a great story! That is how I feel these last 2 years working on my family tree. I'm currently working on my great-great family & I'm finding I'm related to much of the county (lol). Which is why I'm apologizing; I try to update all the info I can on the 1st pass, I'm sorry you have to go back in to add one more little item. argh!

Keep up the good work. I truly admire people with this kind of dedication.

Steve G. Padis
Dear Mr. Backes:
My uncle, Steve G. Padis (b. May 27, 1926 d. Jul. 30, 1939) is buried in Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot, ND. We saw in the picture that you posted on "Find A Grave," that his grave stone picture had been vandalized, and I contacted a company in Minot (Jack Monument), and paid to have it fixed. The entire family has moved to California, and I am the only one left to take care of these thngs. I was wondering if you could take another picture of his grave, showing his new grave stone and picture. It broke my heart to see that this unfortunate lost boy had his grave site disturbed, and I would very much appreciate a new picture being posted on the Find A Grave website. Thank you for your kindness and work on the behalf of all of the families and their departed family members.
