This site serves as a database so that present and future generations can find those they seek. It is used by professional genealogists, as well as amateurs, and is owned by Ancestry.com. If you've used Ancestry and found a link to Find A Grave, it is because of the work of many volunteers who pursue this endeavor with an earnest regard to preserve history for future generations. I was able to trace our family back 13 generations in America (arriving in 1633) with the aid of Ancestry and those who contribute to this site, and it is my desire to "pay it forward" by doing the same for others.

Please keep in mind that this pursuit is completely done by VOLUNTEERS who spend countless hours in this dedicated effort to honor those that have passed before us. However, I understand that some folks do not want their relatives memorials posted on this site. I will honor all requests from IMMEDIATE family members to remove their relatives if they wish. Please state your relationship when contacting me. Remember that your relative's memorial was posted to honor them, so please take that into consideration when contacting me. Also, the information I use to submit a memorial is publicly available on-line so many people have access to it. Memorials are also submitted from information taken directly from grave markers when photo-documenting cemeteries.

Please feel free to ask for a transfer if you find one of your relatives posted here by me (or any other contributor). Most folks will gladly transfer relatives to family members. Please state your relationship to the person in the listing and use the "edit" tab on the memorial to request the transfer. If you don't wish to manage the memorial, I will gladly add any biographical information you would like. If you are contacting me by message board, PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THE MEMORIAL NUMBER OF THE PERSON YOU'RE REFERRING TO. With so many memorials to manage, there are often folks with the same name, so in order to avoid mistakes, it's important that I have the correct memorial number.

Finally, yes I have many memorials and photographs posted to this site. It's frustrating to be accused by other members of this site of "going for numbers" especially since the new site doesn't track that anymore. Since retiring, my contribution to this site is a time consuming labor of devotion to document those that came before us. I have taken photos in rain, snow and 90 degree temperatures, been stung by bees and pestered by gnats and cicadas and even saw a snake (yikes), but I do so happily knowing that someday this information may help someone (yes, complete strangers!). I'm glad the new site has done away with the Top 50 contributors. "Going for the numbers" is not my intention, but it happens when you devote so much time, energy and dedication to this effort. And when you photograph ENTIRE cemeteries, the numbers add up quickly.

My primary focus at present lies in documenting the final resting places of veterans. I once found a poem written on a memorial for a young soldier and it stays with me. I believe it was originally from a speech at the conclusion of the Civil War. In part: "Nor shall your glory be forgot while Fame her record keeps; for Honor marks the hallowed spot where Valor proudly sleeps". I am privileged to preserve these markers for future generations. After all, their valor is our heritage.
