Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. and now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved one's grave and not even leave the house.

If any of my memorials contain errors, or if you have information to add, or you wish for a memorial to be deleted, please send me a message or an edit. All memorials are done with the utmost respect of those who have passed on and those of us left behind.

When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.

I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.

We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.

Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

I just viewed the memorial that you created for my father and I am

thankful. I really appreciate being able to access the photos of his gravesite. I was really young when he passed and have only been able to visit his gravesite on a few occasions.

Are you related to my father or is the same name (Oates) just a coincidence?

Thank you,

Althea K.

Strak and Martha Shelton update
I just got an update from Shawn Riley, who had taken a headstone photo of Stark Shelton and Martha Capps Shelton. The death certificate shows the Shelton cemetery, but it turns out per Shawn that they are in the Sylvan S. Shelton cemetery. I have created new memorials for them both at the proper cemetery. I am hoping you can attach their daughter Texie # 119669553 to both Martha # 139154028 and to Stark # 139154250. I will now delete the parents old memorials.
Sorry for the mix up, hard to verify from Oregon. Take Care, Bill

Nancy Guy McKenzie

Thank you for the additional information re Mrs. McKenzie. I feel certain that she is buried in the national cemetery; they would not allow a marker if she were not interred there.

I appreciate your good work on Find a Grave and am glad to update and correct.

All the best,
Beverly Poole

My apologies for not giving info about Beatrice Shore. I have multitudes of Walser family (my maternal grandfather's) which includes Beatrice. I'll have her family connections posted shortly.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Memorials in Crabtree
Vickie, please do not rush, this is an entire conspiracy set up by Jeff Lovelace. Seems both cemeteries are same. However, the people of Spruce Pine, including the Webb Funeral Home, consider Crabtree Chapel Baptist & Crabtree Chapel to be in Spruce Pine. If it is in Yancey, then, as funeral home said, it is only slightly in and they will still say Spruce Pine on obituaries. Find A Grave NEVER just deletes an entire cemetery, they merge. This has absolutely driven me nuts with emails and threats from him. I am too old for this. All he need to say on an edit was cemetery correction in name, no phony etc. Even a lady that buried her infant there, he sent the same message to--horrible. I am just deleting all my and trying to move on, I have been doing this a long time and have never had such a time as this! Enough of my talk, have a good day and you do a great job here.

James Martin
Thank you for your hard work. I have been trying to trace some roots and I found some very useful information here because of you.
On the page at this link... you said John Martin was born in Northern Ireland. I have quite a bit of info on John, even his birth date, but I had no idea where he was born. Do you recall where you got that information?
He was my 6th Great Grandfather through my grandmother. This line of the family is the only one I have had much success with. I would love to know more about my mother's and father's families through the male lines but it has been difficult.
At any rate, thank you again for your work here. It is a blessing.

RE: Beulah Forbes
Good Morning Vickie,
I believe you have your records straight now. Look at the obituaries and the clue should be there. "Baptist" Church. The phony one is the Crabtree Chapel Cemetery.
