Even as a child cemeteries have fascinated me. I remember begging my Mom to drop my brother and I off at the Lexington Cemetery while she ran errands, so we could look at all the different headstones. I have even been known to take side-trips to little "off the road" cemeteries just to see the old stones. Of course, this gradually turned into seeking out my "family tree". Unfortunately, I didn't get serious about genealogy until around 1997 when my daughter needed some genealogy information" for a school project. As most of the relative that "knew" the information had passed, I have been slowly piecing together many generations of my family tree. |
I found "Find A Grave" when I was doing genealogical research and lo and behold someone I had been "stuck on" was listed with a photo of their headstone!. I was excited to say the least! Since then, I have been trying to do my part here by listing relatives and taking photos of headstones when time allows.
The main names in my family are as follows:
(Paternal - Mainly Central Illinois, France, Germany) Moncelle, Harms, Reinholtz, Grove, Neirgarth, Brooks, Geiger
(Maternal - Mainly Southern Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, England) Burr, Ward, Paugh, Green, Woods, Martin, Cook, Herrick, Colbert

Good afternoon! I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to ask permission to use images you've posted in the Lexington & Scrogin cemeteries (Janes, Hefner, Flesher & Campbell). I'm developing my family website and would love to post these to the database. Thank you so much!
May I have your permission to use your photo of Lexington Cemetery on my ancestry.com family tree, with attribution to you? Thank you very much for your consideration. Gwen

Sophia Baldwin Bear 79127964 is the daughter of Elijah Baldwin 57331035. If you could link her to her father, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, did her biography on her memorial come from a newspaper originally? I was so excited to find her memorial because I haven't been able to find much about the Baldwin family.
|Debra Rosenbloom||Mason Union Cemetery|
Could you please use the following information in the description for Mason Union Cemetery?
Mason Union Cemetery was organized June 1, 1880 from land furnished by Calvin and Louisanne Layson. When you look at the cemetery from the road, the "left" side of the cemetery is considered the older part, with many of the graves having been moved from OLD TURNER CEMETERY, which is less than 1/2 mile south of the Mason Union Cemetery. According to the book "Effingham County Illinois, past and present", "One should not be confused with dates on graves and monuments in Mason Cemetery, as there is a reason. The older TURNER CEMETERY, scarcely a half mile south, furnished many of the occupants and their grave markers. During a period from 1905 to 1909 Tom Flick and Henry White moved many from Turner."
The best proof I can offer, besides the book and County Clerk Record in Book 20, page 447, is, my GGGrandfather, William Colwell died Dec 1879, and is now buried in Mason Union Cemetery, but Mason Union Cemetery was organized in June 1880.

I posted a photo that you had requested and also if there were other family members. I tried to send you an email with a group photo along with Mary Duffy but the email that you have listed didn't work.

It's been 30 days since I sent you some SACs for some of the Dawsons at Dawson Cemetery.
Should I send them to you again? I am not sure if they have fallen through the cracks or not, because I can see you are still active.
Please let me know if I should send them again.
Thanks for all you do :)
|Charlene Kimpler||Ralph L Cleary|
According to the U S Veterans Gravesites there is a marker for Ralph L Cleary in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. There is not a picture of that marker on his memorial page in find a grave. Could you please check and see if that marker is there and if it is take a picture and post it on his page.
|Glenda Barry||Martha Babb|
Thanks for sending the info for Martha, I have added it. She is not in my family, do you want me to transfer her over to you? Let me know at your convenience. Have a great day!
