The surnames I am researching include Piper, Gordon, Case, Lowerre, Cordier, Baker, Hodge and Cuddeback, among many others. I am as interested in my collateral branches as I am in direct lineal ancestors. I have a deep connection to the early pioneers and settlers of Sullivan, Orange and Ulster counties of New York.|
I will gladly make updates/corrections to any of the memorials I have added to Find A Grave and will transfer those that are not in my family tree. Just be patient as it may take me several weeks to respond. You can use the Edit and Transfer tabs or contact me via email.
The work I have done on this site, and hope to continue, is strictly a genealogical labor of love. When I am in a cemetery looking for my own family I am happy to take photos of other gravestones. Many of the entries I have made come from obituaries or news items that I come across in my research, and therefore may not have a photo attached. I strongly believe in adding such biographical data, even though it may not be accurate, because it sometimes provides that elusive clue, or even a place to start. In many cases I've added memorials but have not had time yet to transcribe the obituary. You are welcome to contact me to ask if I have an obit in my files.

Hello Vivian. My husband Fred contacted you regarding the Piper name. Lewis F. Piper was my Great Grandfather. His daughter Lula Frances Piper was my grandmother.I assume that Lewis F. had a brother Charles. My grandmother wrote down her siblings as follows. Charles born 1891, Clinton born 1892, Lula born 1896 and Annabelle born 1899. Ida Belle, Lewis F.(s) wife was born 7/18/1870 and died 6/30/1952 (in my childhood home) in Hopewell Junction. Lewis F. Piper was a Methodist minister born 1859, died 1935.He married Ida Belle April 10, 1890. I have their marriage certificate. I also have a business card of Lewis F. Piper from Shokan, NY that read Comanche Tribe No. 134. It also says Great Representative,G.C,U.S.,Imp'd O. of R.M. Have you any guesses on what that all could mean?

|Linda Peloquin||Maria Sears Race # 29409197 Bridgeville, NY Cemetery|
First, thanks for all your efforts in creating so many memorials.
I've been looking at a branch of the family of a cousin's 2nd husband; he was a Race & descended from Maria & her husband.
In attempting to find out just how Maria's father, mentioned in the obit in her bio, was a "Capt" I encountered the 1890 book, "The Descendants of Richard Sares (Sears) of Yarmouth, Mass. 1638 - 1888" by Samuel P. May, N.E. Hist. Gen. Society.
The section on Maria's paternal family starts on pg. 213 of the book:
This book may be of interest to those descended from Maria & her husband William Henry Race so I'm adding the link here in order that you may add it to Maria's bio if you wish:
The Descendants of Richard Sares (Sears) of Yarmouth, Mass. 1638 - 1888; with an Appendix containing some notices of Other Families by the Name of Sears; By Samuel P. May, Mem. N.E. Hist. Gen. Society; 1890, Joel Munsell's Sons, Publishers, Albany, N.Y., 696 pages
Book contributor: Boston Public Library
Call number: 39999065039644
Collection: bostonpubliclibrary; americana
Digitizing sponsor: Boston Public Library
Richard Sears 1590 - 1676
I didn't find any reference in the book to Maria's father being a "Capt." but surmise via his DOB, that it would have been in service in the War of 1812.
The brief mention of Maria gives her DOB as 19 Mar 1817 so the headstone is wrong or the book is wrong - it happens. And her name is given as "Patty Maria" so it appears both she & her husband went by their second parts of their names during life.
There were other of Capt. William's children in the Bridgeville area so the book may help with connecting some of them if they also have memorials on Find A Grave.
Thanks again for all the hard work!

I'm working on a volume of grave locations for veterans of Co. M, 15th NY Heavy Artillery. Could I have your permission to use the picture you posted of Moses Scott's grave in this compilation? I will cite you as the source, but I need your surname. My e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
