Just a word about some good people on FAG who seem to take it upon themselves to "police" FAG. I think it is wonderful to keep "duplicates" at a minimum and corrections are very important...BUT there is a nice way to approach people...please watch your manners.

Note:I never visit a memorial without leaving a flower. I may not be related. Every memorial should have at least one flower...

I thought I might borrow what Jeff Gonyea (and Joseph Dudley)has on his Find a Grave profile:

"We don't "own" the memorials we manage - they are not ours. We may create them, we may update them, we may transfer them to others - we are but stewards. They are Find A Grave memorials of human beings, departed. They are not "friends" on a social media network website to be collected like baseball trading cards. And there's no prize for the one who dies with the most.

The reward (for me) comes from maintaining the most accurate and dignified memorials I can. What we record becomes history, and a record in someone else's family tree. We have a responsibility to do a good job of it. It's a privilege and honor."

Well put Jeff!

I don't research anymore. Please contact administration for transfers and/or corrections. Thanks for all you do on Find a Grave.

Kind of the sad side of this website. I had someone (Diehard) contact me about a memorial from 2010 that was a duplicate of one from 2007. My memorial had much more information. I would have deleted mine, but would like the important information transferred to the 2007 memorial. I transferred the memorial to the person who reported the duplicate. I have no reason not to delete a duplicate. The issue I had is the person also said the headstone picture was lifted from the original memorial...I was not aware of the original or I would have not created mine. I have taken photos from Ancestry.com...a website that encourages photo sharing and added them to FAG memorials. I also use to place links to FAG from Ancestry.com I would never take a photo from a memorial or create a duplicate intentionally.

The above memorial in question was "merged" with the early memorial, but without some of the most important information...oh well
