If you see an error in information given, please contact me and I will make the corrections. I am human and I make mistakes so please let me know when a correction needs to be made to one of my listings. |
Also, please notify me of any duplicates so I can remove them. If you have a loved one that I have added, please notify me and I will be happy to transfer their online memorial to you.
REQUESTING EDITS, TRANSFERS, ETC.
Please do not leave requests on my contributor page for Additions, Edits, Transfers, etc. Please follow findagrave procedure and go to the MEMORIAL of the person you want changes to and click on: EDIT, then click on SUGGEST A CORRECTION and make your changes/requests that way. This provides me with a link to the memorial, a link to the person making the requests, all the things needed to make the changes quickly & easily.
Also, if you send requests to add obituary notices that have been copied, I will decline them because it is against FAG policy to do so, here is the excerpt from the Frequently Asked Questions:
"Can I add an obituary to my interment listing?
Do not copy obituary notices from newspapers (or from funeral home notices or web sites) to an individual's memorial record unless you have permission from the newspaper to do so or you are the author of the obituary. Some obituaries that were published in 1922 or earlier are now in the public domain. In general, obituaries in newspapers are submitted by the family with assistance from the funeral home. If the obituary is added to the memorial record, list the newspaper and date the obit was printed for example "Published in the Hattiesburg American, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Internet Edition, April 11, 2007". Please do not include the names of living or surviving relatives in the biography, unless you have their permission. If you do not have permission to copy an obituary to a memorial, you may put a note stating the name of the newspaper and the date the obituary was published.
Please do NOT add photographs from obituary notices (unless you, personally took the photo), as they are protected by copyright law. Find A Grave reserves the right to remove obituary notices and photographs from memorial records. Similarly, you may NOT scan an obituary and add it as a photograph to a memorial record.
Obituaries for "famous" individuals are usually written by newspaper staff and can not be posted to Find A Grave as the newspaper company owns that copyright.
Please do not include website addresses that may be listed in the obituary as they usually expire within a year after the obituary is printed"

James M. Thomas is my father. He is not buried in the Thomas Cemetery. He is buried in the Randolph Memorial Garden Cemetery, Pocahontas, Randolph Co. AR with my mother. He is the only one of this family not buried in the Thomas Cemetery.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'm aware of copyright restrictions, which is why I believe I mentioned in my original message that I found it on familysearch.org as a non-paying member of the public. Anyone in the public can see it here:
It says at the top of the obit right under her name that it is from of the "United States, GenealogyBank Obituaries"
I assumed and still assume that this is a publically accessible databank open to be seen and used (shared freely etc...) by anyone, without any payment or copyright restrictions by the original publisher, which was the "Memphis Commercial Appeal". (I believe I mentioned this in the edit message I sent you - although maybe not so clearly - forgive me if I'm misremembering..).
I understand not listing living relatives by name, if that is a findagrave rule, but the obit could be edited and their names replaced with "living male/female relative" etc...as is done on many genealogy sites. But as far as i understand it there are no copyright restrictions on this obituary - it is available for fair use and neither the Memphis Commercial Appeal nor familysearch.org holds any copyright on it. The publisher, the Commercial Appeal, relinquished its copyright upon giving it to the "United States, GenealogyBank Obituaries". And they appear not to have a copyright either.
By clicking on the "Learn More" link on the familysearch site under "United States, GenealogyBank Obituaries, 1980-2014" it goes to a page explaining all about them:
I don't see any reference to copyright at all on that page but it does say when *citing* information one should document the citation to their database thusly:
Citations for This Collection
When you copy information from a record, you should list where you found the information; that is, cite your sources. This will help people find the record again and evaluate the reliability of the source. It is also good to keep track of records where you did not find information, including the names of the people you looked for in the records. Citations are available for the collection as a whole and each record or image individually.
“United States, GenealogyBank Obituaries, 1980-2014.” Database. FamilySearch. http://FamilySearch.org : accessed 2015. Citing GenealogyBank, Naples, Florida.
Record Citation (or citation for the index entry):
The citation for a record is available with each record in this collection, at the bottom of the record screen. You can search records in this collection by visiting the search page for United States, GenealogyBank Obituaries, 1980-2014.
I hope this helps.

|Linda||RE: Minnie Nearn obit|
Thanks! That's pretty weird. I see obits either copy & pasted or typed out word for word *all the time* on findagrave! Without using obits I'm not sure how findagrave expects anyone to have anything at all written in their bio section. I will try to write up a bio on her long-hand based upon genealogical information I've found and send it to you when I have time.

Wow, what a mess. I inherited 41477168 through transfer and never compared the headstone info to the memorial before incorrectly linking to the parents. I think I have it figured out as follows:
#41477168 Changed to Vera E Thomas B:4-26-1912 to D:6/14/2000, correctly linked to Elmer Malcolm Massey #41477211. Deleted links to parents John Lair and Marietta Strange
#107297407 Veda Elizabeth Lair Massey born 4/1/1904 to 2/19/1990, correctly linked to Elmer Talbert Massey #107297360 born 2/26/1904. Properly linked to parents Jouh lair and Marietta Strange. You might want to update the dates.
Let me know if any other issues.

I would like to take control of this page.
He is my grandfather's brother and I can link them together.
|Don||O'hare photo requests at Saint Agnes|
I found an O'hare stone in section 40, I also have the cemetery records for an O'hare family in this section. I did a short family tree on ancestry.com on this family. Are you related? I could not find a marker for the individuals you requested. If you have an ancestry.com membership you can contact me using their message system, see if we're talking about the same family?

|lifeinperspective||Gene Wait/Vicki Johnson|
I would like your permission to use the photo of this grave for both Gene Wait and Vicki Johnson (in Restland Memorial Park) in my family tree. I will of course credit you as the photographer. Thanks for the consideration.
As per your request, I have added the plot location of James MacArthur Brown and Robert Edward Brown so that it may be easier to located headstone for photos.
James (Garden of the Cross, Phase 4, Lt.62, Blk."A")
Robert (Garden of Freedom, Phase 4, Lt.131, Blk."C")
