Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. Obituaries, photos, and excerpts from larger works in the context of genealogy and historical research would be considered non-infringing, as noted above.

Common sense and courtesy 'tips the scale' that a person should ask permission to reuse another person's work and you should include a credit by-line if that work is not YOUR original creation! Thank you Robertt John Chudek for letting me use this from your Bio.

I am happy to transfer people not related but please do not ask me to transfer everyone in a cemetery because you want control or everyone who is related to you. Please state relationship.

I only add information when you send it through the edit in the upper right hand corner of the memorial.

Thank you.

A love for family history started when my 6th grade teacher asked us to make a family tree.
I talked to my grandparents and wrote letters.
Then one of my Great Aunt's decided to do a book on her side of the family. This ended up in 4 books.
An Aunt and I decided to go visit cemetery's and look into old records. It has been fun to get more pieces of the puzzle.

Pictures are so much more fun than just names. Thank you to those of you who have added pictures and stories.

Several years ago when my younger sister than about age 10 went with me to the old Tinkham cemetery in Indiana and she said,"Doesn't anyone love these people anymore." No one they knew was living, we were their closest relatives.

Thank you to all of you who have worked so hard and gathered so much information. Thank you for the many corrections and additions.

Thank you to the many wonderful volunteers. There will always be the few where everything is "all about me" .

Pictures are all copyrighted and are from the family collection. You may use them but please list source.

Hello, i forgot to let you know that his headstone was not in the Gettysburg Cemetery, but just a few miles down in the Lebanon Cemetery. I had so many to input that i forgot to let you know a head of time. Sorry. But now you can correct that status.

Thank you for providing information on my Great, Great Grandfather Christ Harley. It is great to see a snap shot of his life online.

I am trying to find any additional information on his life and legacy. If you have any leads, please let me know.

Fag emails not reaching you?
The memorial for Leonard Nichols 114443264 has an incorrect mother linked to him. Catherine Price Cheville was not Leonard's mother. The correct person is 114442981 Ethel Marie Cheville (Catherine's daughter).

Thanks for helping correct the error!

Correction needed
Hello, I sent this to you using the send a correction button, but it appears you didn't get it from Find A Grave.

The parents listed for Earl Nichols 114442907 are incorrect. Here are the correct memorial numbers:

Father: 114443449 Oscar David Nichols
Mother: 114442981 Ethel Marie Cheville (my grand aunt)

Thank you for fixing this! :~)

RE: Gish
My Great Aunt joined LDS and sent them extensive information from papers left to her in her families records. My father got interested in 1977, about 3 years after my Aunt joined the Mormons. Dad insisted that he needed at least two documented citations before he would enter things in out family tree. Only 25% of what he received from Aunt Della was verifiable by Dad standards. He would only use LDS data if he had 2 other citations verifying it. Mind you, the information can be useful in pointing to a line of study that needs to be checked out. He also received a request for information about his father's parents and their descendants from Roy Dean Barnard of VA. Dad said he sent only about his father and two brothers who served together in the Spanish/American War. He had more but would only send it after he received something from Mr. Barnard. About 6 weeks later, an envelop with about 300 single spaced pages arrived. We think there are 8000 names. There are detailed accounts of the migrations of 12 families. There are, however, no source citations. I've taken about 500 names, so far, from this book. In the 30 years or so, I've never found a problem. I use this book as secondary data but I only need one other source to use it. My 8 times grandfather is Col. George Eskridge. He was the guardian to Mary Ball. In 1731 she married Augustine Washington at Sandy Point Plantation. This was 12000 acres of Tobacco and Slaves owned by Col George. In 1732, it is said that Mary named her first born after her beloved guardian. There is a diary entry dated then that places the First President of the United States, at his Christening, in the arms of Col. George Eskridge.

I don't know if you use a service to hold your family tree. I use My Heritage, Ancestry.com is too expensive for me. They have an off line program, called Family Tree Builder, that has tools that can root out inconsistencies. I've found 17 different things it checks for (that I've seen so far, there could be more). Things like: Mother born after Son. Person alive at 275 years old. Husband 65 years older than wife. I've been on sites that had a woman with 25 children, no twins, and only lived 30 years. I found one site where Henry VIII had 345 members of his immediate family. That's parents, wives and children only. Henry VIII had six wives and 3 children by them. One, Henry Fitzroy, by Lady Blount that he acknowledged. Now Brigham Young has links to 81 people in his immediate family, but he had almost 30 wives and almost 60 kids.(Find a Grave.com 1137, 1 1/2 screens of Bio and 2 1/2 screens of Family Links.) I'm talkin' a big family.

Good luck in your pursuit of the 60,000,000,000 piece jigsaw puzzle we call Genealogy.
