I started doing full photographic inventories of cemeteries in St. Lawrence county NY back in 1999 and have about 175 cemeteries inventoried and online on my home page (see link below). I have copied the listings over to find-a-grave and am working on getting all the photos uploaded here as well. Its a slow process, so if you don't find what you are looking for here, check to see if I have it on my other site. Please don't add the pictures from my website to find-a-grave yourself. If you find a picture on my site that you would like added to find-a-grave, just send me an email or leave me a message and I'll be happy to add them. |
I lived most of my life in the Washington DC area where I have taken photos for about 8 years. I recently moved to Colorado to be closer to my family, but still try to get back to the DC area every now and then. However, I am no longer participating in filling requests in Arlington. Over the last three - four years it has become quite unpleasant due to a couple other "volunteers", which was a major factor in finally convincing me to move from the DC area. I will still be visiting Arlington and photographing markers as often as I can get there. Currently, I'm trying to get a few hundred photos added for markers in the cemetery each week from photos I have taken previously . I just won't be claiming requests there since I can no longer deal with the harassment and I want to regain the feeling of dignity and serenity that I used to have each time I walked into the cemetery. It is one of the most honorable, respectful, serene, and to me, sacred locations in the world .
If you would like to take-over ownership of any memorials I've created for your family members just let me know. I'd be happy to transfer them to you, but please realize that in general, edits can be made by using the edit tab on the memorial without any need for transfer of management. That said, while in the past I never turned down a transfer request, recent actions on some memorials I transferred have caused me to very rarely decline a transfer. I may decline when the requester republishes recent obituaries without permission from the publisher (in violation of item 3 of the site "Terms of Service"), creates duplicate or burial unknown memorials (in violation of the site rules), or adds inappropriate biographies which to me include biographies that are NOT about the person, but solely about their husband, ancestors, graphic details of their death, or about the history of the plane/ship/etc they served on.

Thank you, Anne, for the photographs of the Graves headstones. Royal would be my first cousin twice removed. You've helped a great deal in my family tree work.

Ouch, sorry to hear it. Likely why they are so hesitant to do merges.

I would like to thank you, again, for creating this memorial for my Dad's cousin, for taking pictures of his tombstone, and for transferring his memorial to me. I know you did this quite a while ago, but I visited the memorial today for his birthday and was reminded of your past kindness and generosity. I think of you wit gratitude every time I visit his memorial. May you enjoy every blessing in this New Year.

The bit where they get indignant because someone else PUT THEIR FAMILY ON- and think they have to OWN every single one of them-bothers me more than a bit too. I do not mind transferring to a relative, and if you are nice, in some other circumstances, but they don't BELONG to anyone. And as you said,they can make changes and additions from edit.
I would to ask permission to use the picture of Eugenia Nisbitt (Drane) Westfall in Arlington Memorial Cemetery 34242210 as she is in my family.
I have been in findagrave for many, many years, and genealogy over 38, and I have run into a few nasties, but apparently not as many as you! (They have not helped me make decisions to move!) (I need to- I am 79, and straddled with a large house I have not the whatever to get rid of!)
I am on the Facebook page- and read the tales of others- and as said, I have had a few. Mainly they don't want to give proof, but want you to make all kinds of changes, and additions.
But anyhow- if you will- I would like to use her grave picture in my research.
Ms. Gerry Hill-Albany Ga.
|Marianne Bradley||John G and Haywood Lewis Winter|
Thank you for posting the photos of the Winter brothers John and Haywood in Arlington. They were my grandmothers first cousins. Like you mentioned in your profile, there are some aggravating people doing Find A Grave in the past few years. I cannot fathom how anyone can be disrespectful of the great job many of us do. Thank you again.
