I started doing full photographic inventories of cemeteries in St. Lawrence county NY back in 1999 and have about 175 cemeteries inventoried and online on my home page (see link below). I have copied the listings over to find-a-grave and am working on getting all the photos uploaded here as well. Its a slow process, so if you don't find what you are looking for here, check to see if I have it on my other site. Please don't add the pictures from my website to find-a-grave yourself. If you find a picture on my site that you would like added to find-a-grave, just send me an email or leave me a message and I'll be happy to add them. |
I lived most of my life in the Washington DC area where I have taken photos for about 8 years. I recently moved to Colorado to be closer to my family, but still try to get back to the DC area every now and then. However, I am no longer participating in filling requests in Arlington. Over the last three - four years it has become quite unpleasant due to a couple other "volunteers", which was a major factor in finally convincing me to move from the DC area. I will still be visiting Arlington and photographing markers as often as I can get there. Currently, I'm trying to get a few hundred photos added for markers in the cemetery each week from photos I have taken previously . I just won't be claiming requests there since I can no longer deal with the harassment and I want to regain the feeling of dignity and serenity that I used to have each time I walked into the cemetery. It is one of the most honorable, respectful, serene, and to me, sacred locations in the world .
If you would like to take-over ownership of any memorials I've created for your family members just let me know. I'd be happy to transfer them to you, but please realize that in general, edits can be made by using the edit tab on the memorial without any need for transfer of management. That said, while in the past I never turned down a transfer request, recent actions on some memorials I transferred have caused me to very rarely decline a transfer. I may decline when the requester republishes recent obituaries without permission from the publisher (in violation of item 3 of the site "Terms of Service"), creates duplicate or burial unknown memorials (in violation of the site rules), or adds inappropriate biographies which to me include biographies that are NOT about the person, but solely about their husband, ancestors, graphic details of their death, or about the history of the plane/ship/etc they served on.

Thanks for the info, Anne. I wish there were a way to decipher some of those unreadable stones. And just clean it up a bit. Do you think some rubbings might reveal anything? Or has that been tried?
My relative, Cecelia Lange, has talked about potentially a cleanup effort out there. Maybe a chance to carefully dig up a few of the stones that are partially buried.

Thanks Annie, for trying to help Jim Laudie and me on the burial of Mary McGovern Dalton. Her son's (Mathew Dalton) biography states she was buried "1834 on the family farm at Madrid where they resided from 1821 to 1835".
The original St. Marys was much earlier est. in 1820 and Mary's daughter-in-law was indeed buried there, but 28 years later.
Here is my problem with "Original" being right on the Dalton farm: From 1821 to 1835, Mathew states, "The homestead.....was about one & one-half miles from the St. Lawrence River...in the Township of Madrid....here for fourteen years we lived, clearing, plowing, sowing......four children being born, James 1823, George 1826 (me, 1829), and Mary 1831. Mary McGovern, my mother....first grief entered our home, 1834...I was six years old....my grief insupportable....my father heart broken...."
(Since they were living on and working the farm while "Original" was already established, it does not make sense to me that it was a cemetery "on their farm" for 14 years before she was buried.)
I really appreciate all you do and realize these places "morphed" and memories faded...all I had was the family history of a son. Thanks, Shirleen
Thanks for fulfilling my photo request!!

I love your info on here. You've got Saint Lawrence County figured out for cemeteries. I have a lot of Dalton relatives in Waddington/Louisville area in the 1800s. Curious about the burials you have in the Original St Marys Cemetery near Waddington. I've been there once and it's the one that's behind the farm by the silos, no? Mary would have been one of the first to be buried there and I couldn't find any stone there. Not sure if there is one but curious if you know. I'm back in the area next week and may try to stop by again. But do you have any record of her? One other person (history4sure) posted a burial for her at the Raymond Dalton Farm Burial Cemetery (which I believe is a duplicate of the Original St Marys Cemetery that you've populated). But no picture of a stone. Thanks for any help,

Thanks for taking care of the numerous edits I've left recently on assorted ancestors! Are you, by any chance, in the North Country at the moment?

Thank you so much for the transfer.

|Silverfox||Question re Photo for FAG 131127922|
First, thanks for the photo. I have a question re the name. I have been looking for the grave of a Bradley Hallock, b 1820, last record found in 1875 in Jefferson Co, NY. You posted this photo to a Find A Grave for Stanley Hallock, b 1820, died 01/05/1880, which seems to match the Bradley Hallock I am looking for.
As I look at the photo, the last five letters seem to be "adley". Do you recall this photo and recall if this name should really be Bradley? Given the dates are the same as the memorial, I think the Memorial has the wrong name. I realize it is a long shot if you might be able to recall which name you think it is, but thought I'd check.
Thanks for your time.
