I'm working on pictures of tombstones around Pierre, South Dakota and obits from Mitchell and Huron, South Dakota papers. I do put up obits with the source and date if possible. If you see one from your family member you want taken down let me know. If you notice something inaccurate on a memorial let me know so I can fix it. |
If you would like to use a photo that I took, you are more then welcome to do so.

Great catch...thanks..and for the photo, too. Will get rid of the other.
I help my husband with teaching history classes out here in the Black Hills. I also love genealogy. One class he teaches is on the history of Fort Meade in Sturgis, SD. Recently while conducting research at the Old Fort Meade Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, I noticed several people have listed family members or friends at the cemetery who passed after 1943. The Fort Meade Cemetery has been a closed cemetery since 1943. No internments can take place nor have taken place since Black Hills National Cemetery opened with the first burials in 1948.
Be sure to check with the “Black Hills National Cemetery” (a few miles away from Fort Meade Cemetery) and your relative or friend may be buried there or possibly at one of the other cemeteries in Sturgis: Bear Butte Cemetery or St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Another possibility is they could be buried in the similarly named “Fort Meade Post Cemetery” located in Maryland
Good Luck in your searches.

The memorial number is 94151980, I believe this is a distant relative and would like you to add his birth date and death date. He was born March 9, 1841 in Hanover, Germany and died May 29, 1915. His wife was Louise Dora Benn - I believe she is Louisa D. Bush in findagrave and they had the following children: Guy born Dec of 1884, John born Oct of 1886, Martha Evelyn born Oct of 1888, Julius born Nov of 1889, and William Jr born June of 1892 - those births are from the 1900 Census. Per that census they also had another child but it didn't survive. Thank you so much.

Many thanks to you for the information about the death of Ida Riggs. I wondered how she died so soon after her marriage to Dr. Riggs. I will add this to the little info I have on her memorial. Once again, thank you for this information.
