RE: Murdock Davies
Hi again - Around the time of Murdoch's birth there was a Dundee Saw Mill (renamed Henderson Mill) in the area that is now Henderson, Auckland, NZ. Given that there was a workers' camp there, it is possible that is where Murdoch was born. It fits in with your family notes and also with Auckland being the port of arrival of the ship 'Portland' in 1864 :-)

RE: Murdock Davies

The above is an article about a mutiny on the ship 'Portland'. A crew member by the name of Angus McKenzie appears to have been one of the ringleaders.

The above is a passenger list from the ship 'Portland' arriving at Auckland NZ in 1864. There is a passenger - Harriet Walmot. I believe this to be a mispelling of Wilmot.

These arrivals tie in with the birth of Murdoch is 1865 and the marriage of Harriet to Angus in 1865/1866.

The above is an interesting family history which I believe is inaccurate with regards to Harriet's ancestry and perhaps Angus's as well. Some researchers have tried to link Harriet to the family of Sir Henry Sacheverell Wilmot, 4th Baronet of Chaddesden (England). I believe that is unlikely.

Anyhow, some interesting reading for you and a link to your more modern day relatives whom you have already identified I'm sure :-)

RE: Murdock Davies
Sorry - I meant to mention that Murdoch was born here in New Zealand; his mother Harriet came to NZ on the ship 'Portland' in 1864...

RE: Murdock Davies
OK thank you. I asked only because, from a quick look around the internet, I noticed that there are a number of versions of Angus and Harriet's ancestry. Some more fanciful than others!! :-) I have sent you a couple of links that indicate how they may have met and (unfortunately) a possible insight into Angus's character/occupation that may explain the later abandonment and untimely death of Harriet. I apologise if you already have this information. Happy reading :-)

RE: Davies
Hi Karen. I've transferred Murdoch to you as well as the other related Davies family members at Kaituna and elsewhere. Also James (Snr) and Mary Ann Davies, who I presume are the adoptive parents. I don't know of any place in New Zealand called Dundee Mills - I believe it may be in Scotland. However, there is a birth registered in New Zealand in 1865 for a 'Murdoch MacKenzie'. The listing does not show a birth place and, interestingly, the marriage of Angus to Harriett in NZ is not registered until 1866!! I see you have an exact date for Murdoch's birth - does that mean you have seen a certificate or registry entry?... Jonty

Weavers at Kaituna
Hi again - if you want me to transfer the Weaver memorials to you, I am happy to do so :-)

Weavers/Warmouths at Kaituna
Hi. I have fulfilled your requests for photos from Kaituna cemetery. I have also photographed and created memorials for all the other Weavers that are in the same cemetery. I did not find any other Warmouths nor any McKenzies (although there are some unreadable headstones). However, there are some memorials for the Davies family including Murdock Davies who I believe is the brother of Alexander (McKenzie) Weaver. Unforunately, I did not know this until I returned from the cemetery to upload the photos. If the Davies family are important to you I can take some photos when I am next in that area (although that may be some time away) - Jonty
