I am interested in finding my immigrant Stevens ancestor. I have even had my dna tested. On the y-dna side (dna on the y chromosome, which is passed from father to son), I am R1b-L21, which is the most common haplogroup in the British Isles, especially Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Update: Since I wrote that first paragraph above, I have tested positive for two SNPs downstream from (descended from) L21: DF13 and DF41. DF41 is downstream from DF13, and DF13 is downstream of L21. The Royal House of Stewart, family of a number of famous kings and queens of Scotland and England, has tested DF41+, as well, so I guess I'm in good company! :-)

Further developments via Family Tree DNA's Big Y-500 y-dna test: P312, Z290, L21, DF13, Z39589, DF41, Y8426, BY160, FGC36974, FGC36982 (think of all that as a pedigree composed of y-dna Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms or SNP's). My own branch of the Stevens family is currently characterized by the terminal SNP FGC36982.

Thus far I can only get my Stevens line as far back as my ggg-grandfather, Auguston Stevens, born 05 Feb 1804 in Wheeling, West Virginia (part of Virginia back then), and buried in Old Bastrop Cemetery, Bastrop, Louisiana (Find A Grave memorial #77451118).

I am thinking about becoming a photo volunteer. I am a teacher, so I could take photos during the summer, and I know of a number of little old family farm graveyards back in the woods around where I live.
