Bio

I started researching my family tree many years ago and came across this site which I found very helpful. It feels like a community of like minded people who all want to help each other, which appeals to me. Whilst photographing relatives graves I decided to record others and add them to this site, in order to help fellow researchers. I also feel it is important to memorialise all those that have gone before us, so that their memory lives on.

Back in 2015 I discovered that 551 US service personnel were buried in my local cemetery in 1918, whilst stationed nearby in local camps preparing for war. They had travelled from the US to Hampshire, England in preparation for France. Later in the 1920's the local authorities had worked with the families and relatives of the deceased. The families would decide whether they wanted their loved ones reinterred at Brookwood American cemetery in Surrey England, or repatriated to the USA. Only 1 soldier remained in Winchester and is still there today. During the course of my research I discovered that many of these young men and women had contracted the Spanish influenza either in the US training camps or on board the transport ships whilst en-route to the UK. The Influenza often turned into pneumonia which sadly killed them. In some cases the War office were very secretive about where they had died and would often tell the families they passed in France. I can only presume their reasons why. I have decided to work through the Cemetery Burial register to ensure that all these US Personnel have an online memorial, to ensure they are not forgotten and to set the record straight. In some cases they already have an existing memorial so I am writing to the creators of those memorials to pass all relevant information on to them for their consideration.

I am quite happy to pass Management of any memorial I have created to a confirmed relative.

I am happy to remove a memorial if a proven family member requests me to do so in a polite fashion. I do not wish to offend anyone only to honour those that have passed. Of course I understand memorials are a sensitive issue and completely understand if one needs to be removed.

I am always happy to be corrected if I have made a mistake. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
