Bio

Retired CWO-5 USMC and High School USMC JROTC Senior Marine Instructor. My family name has changed many times since arriving in America around 1750. It's been spelled Schley, Sly, and Syle. I was born in Kansas City, MO but moved often but I consider my hometown to be Woodstock, GA. Growing up we lived in MO, IA, AZ, CA, TN, TX & GA. I quit High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1966. I went to boot camp at MCRD Parris Island, SC. I served 22 months (Dec '67-Sep '69) in Vietnam (DaNang & QuangTri Combat Base). I was wounded in August 1969. After I left active duty as a Sergeant I joined the Marine Corps Reserve in Atlanta, GA. I worked at Sears Catalog in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Doing that time I was selected as a Warrant Officer. At Sears I rose from a dock worker to a Catalog Buyer. Sears Catalog went away in 1987 and I went back on active duty. I served in the Gulf War (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, & Iraq). I was selected on the first Marine Corps Reserve Chief Warrant Officer-5 Board in 1992. I retired off active duty in 1998. I then taught High School Marine Corps JROTC in LA & MO. In 2003 I volunteered to come back on active duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom. I retired from teaching in 2011 due to PTSD not being welcomed in the school system. Since I joined the Marine Corps I have earned my GED, received my AA & BS Degree and Masters. I also graduated from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. I have always volunteered to help the communities I lived in. The Jaycees, Lions Club, Toys for Tots, CFC, ESGR (Ombudsman) and the United Way. Today I am a volunteer for the Sullivan County, MO Emergency Management Agency and Find A Grave. I try to pay it forward for the next Generation. Semper Fidelis!
