Regarding the memorials that I have added: If there are corrections needing made, please use the "Edit" tab. You can find this tab on the top, far right hand side of the memorial. From there, you will find a selection of links in which to use for whatever corrections are needed.

If you would like a memorial transferred, please feel free to ask. I always prefer that loved ones manage memorials if at all possible.

Also, please feel free to use any photo or information that I have submitted here.

Memorial for Elizabeth Liles
On the memorial for Elizabeth Liles at Old Palestine Cemetery, Alto, TX, you posted pictures of the gravestone with her picture on it. are you related to this Liles couple? I have a picture I would like to share with the family. Not sure I have the right Liles.

RE: Updates Made
Many thanks! I wish everyone was this considerate. Some seem to want DNA proof.

Mertie Sustaire
Dee, I posted a picture of Mertie Sustaire that I believe was taken in the mid to late 1940's.

If I come across any others, I will post them. I will also get by the cemetery as mentioned and photograph the grave site.

Please re send and replace the paperwork you posted on him. It won't open and what is there is unreadable. This is my son in law's grandfather and I am trying to update the kids page for them. I would love to be able read his story.
TY

RE: Photo Request from you
I don't recall that she ever said anything about her grandfather. Sorry I can't help you there. The rest of the family is gone except for one uncle and he is not able to answer questions anymore. Wish I could add more. Michael

RE: Photo Request from you
I am not sure how much help I can be but will tell you what I remember. My grandmother, Mertie Sustaire, used to tell me that her father, James Wray, and mother, (I don't remember her saying her name), moved to Texas from Alabama in a wagon. She also said he, her father, was a preacher and was very strict. He may have been a lay preacher as that was rather common in the family (and in the area during those times).

My mother and I visited the grave site of James & Malinda Wray, in Hunt County (I believe it was Hunt County) not too many years before she (my mother, Penny Sustaire) died. She indicated that they were my great grandparents. I have not been back to that grave site since, but I am planning on trying to find it again when I get the chance.

Mertie Sustaire is buried by her husband, Elmor "Hassie" Sustaire, my mother, Nelda Joy "Penny" Sustaire, and my little brother, Johnny Lynn Mathews, in Maple Springs Cemetery.

Mertie (sounds strange calling her that instead of Mama), was a very stern and religious woman. I rarely remember ever seeing her smile. She once told me when I was around 10 that no man had ever seen her naked, she had never said a swear word, and she had never tasted alcohol. Even at ten years old, I thought "How sad".

I won't bore you with more, but I hope this info has been helpful.

I wrote a little about Mama (Mertie) in a blog if you are interested. It is rather short but it does tell a little more about her.

Newsome is probably less than an hour away, but in a direction I only travel when I feel the need to visit the graves. It probably won't be long. I have been thinking of putting flowers on Mother's grave. When I do, I will take pictures of my grandmother's grave and post it. As a matter of fact, I will take pictures of all of the family's graves and post them.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Photo Request from you
I saw your photo request for Mertie Sustaire in the Maple Springs Cemetery in Newsome Texas.

I will take a picture next time I go by. That is my grandmother (maternal). I thought I had one, but can't locate it. I should be by there before too long.
