One more thing. My wife's 2nd great grandmother is Louisa Jane Coleman, daughter of Daniel and Sarah Coleman and wife of Ransom Dotson. Maybe you're cousins?

RE: Hello
Hi Andrea. Thanks for your comments. I would be very grateful for your help. I'll send you an email when I have completed my list, and maybe we can compare notes. Thank you especially for photographing the Jordan Dotson cemetery in Phelps. My wife's 2nd and 3rd great grandparents (on her mother's side) are there.

She is from Pike County (Hardy) but we live in Toronto, Canada. We have spent most of our 3-week vacation here in Kentucky visiting and photographing cemeteries.

The reunion I was thinking of is on July 20th at the Hardy Park Grounds. It is mainly for descendants of Deputy Sheriff Floyd Hatfield (1858-1938), who was the son of George Hatfield (1804-1883) and the grandson of Ephraim "Eph of All" Hatfield (1765-1847).

Help Please
I am desperately looking for someone who can help me find some information. Paris Daugherty had a sister, Merlie, she was my great grandmother. She married a John Rutherford who was born around 1903 in Virginia, and supposedly died in a coal mine cave in sometime between 1930 and 1950. I have hit a dead end on John. I have resorted to trying to loop over from siblings. Any help, suggestions, or information would be greatly appreciated.

I have no further information on the New family. Sorry. (Also you forgot to mention the name of the cemetery.)

RE: Johnson Hatfield
Thanks to your suggestion, I looked harder for more info on "my" Johnson and found his death reported in a paper. I also checked out James's family and saw that he and Ransom were brothers. No wonder these records have been hard to sort out! I updated the memorial with that and some notes on all three of the Johnsons.

I'm related to both the Hatfields and the McCoys several different ways, but Ransom and his family are my favorites because of Ransom's second wife being from an especially interesting line and with closer relationship, especially some dear old folks now long gone. Thanks for flagging this young man so that my curiosity pushed me to find what happened to him so young.

Johnson Hatfield
In the course of checking on the difference in death dates from what I have on the memorial (1889, verified by the KHS and Boyd Co. database) and 1959 (a Johnson Hatfield died in Ohio that year), I wanted to see if you are aware there are 2 Johnsons so close together in age. Apparently, one born in 1864 was a son of James and lived in Pike County for the 1880 US Census, and the one born in Pike Co. in 1862 was Ransom's son, and that's the one my memorial is for. Ransom's family did live in Pike through the 1870 Census, then are found in Boyd after that. The wife and children you list appear to belong to James's son. I think the photo you added also belongs to him.

To make more confusion, the notable "Johnse" Hatfield known for his romance with Rosanna McCoy was also actually named Johnson, and numerous people have his death location attached to Ransom's son.

Hope this helps. :)
