I was born and grew up in Utica, Mississippi. After high school graduation, I attended what was then Hinds Jr. College, and graduated in 1963. I left Utica in 1964 and married Philip Gerhart from Columbus, Mississippi. We were married 11 years and had two sons. After Philip's death, I married David Bailey from Oxford, Mississippi. We had been married 34 years before his death. I continue to live in Columbus.

My paternal grandparents were William Culbertson Cessna and Evia Melvina Boyd Cessna.

My maternal grandparents were Henry Buckner Ford and Mary Elizabeth Williams Ford.
