I am a Korean War draftee and after completing 16 weeks of basic training at Ft. Knox, KY was recruited to enter the Counter Intelligence Corps. After 4 months of CIC training in Baltimore, MD, I was sent to Japan where I spent 15 months in Kokura, Japan as a member of the 441st CIC Detachment (Kokura was the primary target for 2nd A-bomb but clouds and smoke from nearby Hakata bombing raids obscured target) so the B-29 bomber chose the secondary target, Nagasaki - just as well since Kokura was home to large POW camp, on the island of Kyushu. (Thanks to the Army, I have been to Hawaii twice and once to Midway Island and Wake Island - to re-fuel the plane) - and received Honorable Discharge in 1955. I wrote my first computer program in Jan, 1957 and worked with main frame computers until retirement in 1988.

I now live in Indian River, MI. (north of 45th parallel so now live closer to North Pole than Equator) and am most happy to hear from other family tree searchers as well as genealogy things in general plus Civil War. Wife and I are old "cemetery trompers" and like nothing more than to stop when we see an old cemetery to stroll through it. If I find a Civil War stone, it makes the stop more worthwhile. Four of my kin fought in CW - one was Brigadier General under Phil Sheridan. One in honor guard which accompanied Lincoln's casket from Washington to Illinois. Also two brothers were WW2 veterans. One in Navy SeaBees who landed early to prepare Omaha Beach for D-Day landings.

Graving is lots of really enjoyable fun. And I now have many findgrave friends.

I have made it a personal crusade to enter personal stats for any veteran obits I find
listed in a newspaper.
