The Recording of A Cemetery
By Thelma Greene Reagan

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely windswept hill:
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreaks of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time:
Lying under the trees and clouds-
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad Lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Note: With the confusion about pictures:::::: Permission is granted for any tombstone picture that I have taken and post to be use on personal web pages, no copyright laws apply to pictures I have taken. The reason we do this is to share. Sylvia Whittaker

My husbands grandmother, sister and mother, saved obituaries all their lives, pasted them in old sears books, they were saved from being tossed out and given to me. I paid my son 1 penny to paste them onto index cards. There are no newspaper names or dates. I've been sharing the information from them as I find that persons burial place. History saved for all, thanks to Rosella, Glover Criss Mildred Criss and Wilma Criss Whittaker

I was given hundreds of old obituaries last year and a few years ago a lady in Wetzel county gave me her book of hundreds old obituaries dating back to 1940's I will get them added in time. E mail. [email protected]. If you wish to manage any of my memorials please ask and I'll gladly transfer to you if they arent my ancestor.
